It's JUST green bean casserole! (and other Family Holiday Horrors) Ok, so this marks the 3rd time I am going to my step-sisters for Thanksgiving. We take turns going to each others place. This time I go to her house and thus she takes care of dinner. For being the not-as-great-cook-as-she-thinks-she-is, she defnds her kitchen and anyone even being involved with dinner. This year she has a smaller place and I have been told it's a "one person kitchen"...so she'll be doing all the food.
I need to metion that she is ALWAYS dieting and makes it her job that Thanksgiving is as healthy as possible. It is also a very intimate affair with her, her husband and me and mine. She did invite let's say a "less unfortuneate couple" last time and they LOVED her cooking while her husband kept giving me "let get Mickey D's" look. Now I don't mind her health conscious manner, but she subjects us all to it. This will be the most healthy meal I'll have all year. She gets very defensive if anyone wants to add something to the menu that isn't in the same vein that she's making. I make a killer Cranberry sauce and I know that Green Bean Casserole probably is not tradition for her. I mentioned I'll just make and bring these, the sauce was fine, but the casserole was a different story. She apperently has bought organic green beans and wants to use those. I said we can do both, as I don't consider GBC to be a vegetable. SHe said "let's compromise! I'll find a cream recipe to replace the cream of mushroom and I got these great onions I can put on top" That's a completely different dish! I probably shouldn't be all ornery about it...but she does this every time we go down. It's sort a funny ha ha...but right now I am a bit peeved. I'm just gonna make it anyway and bring it and just say "please". it's all I can do. Christian Zombie Vampires

so why not treat her the same way when you host nex time?
just serve her some turkey in a deep plate, soaked in two pints of lard. and there will be no complaining or adding to the dinner! and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

But she's very defensive and particular about food over the holidays. She should just be welcoming and try to accomodate everyone. A casserole is NOT a big deal. I could see if she had her way andw we didn't like each others ways...but I'm trying to unsrup (sp) her in any way. Christian Zombie Vampires

My aunt always makes this ungodly shit she likes to call dessert. It's always something she's trying out. Last year she put raisins and pecans in her pumpkin pie which didn't have enough sugar in it....it was awful :iil: Her husband even tries to warn her not to bake anything The year before that it was something called Million Dollar Pie. She had to drive about an hour that year so by the time she got to our house it was all soupy looking. It's kinda funny though, that's like the thing every Thanksgiving....seeing what abomination she's gonna bring. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

oh, family. you gotta love 'em. i'm making korma for my mom as a day-after-thanksgiving dinner, and asked if she could pick up tofu and rice at the grocery.
tonight, upon my arrival and a viewing of the kind of tofu and rice she purchased, i realize i need to be VERY specific about what i request.

I am making the stuffing.....alas, I don't use Stove Top Stuffing, but we will still salute the great life of that stuffing king.
I also am doing something fantastic with cranberries.....I am thinking opening the can and putting them in a dish will suffice.....
