How Many People Here (Including Althom)...

...have never lived by themselves before?? hmmm

Got to thinking about this after posting on Madartista's "I'm Moving" thread...how many of you have never, ever, had your own place to live?? Do you wish you had or could? (I always did)...Do you not care? Do you think you'd feel more at peace with a place that was yours and yours alone...or would you feel lonely and miss the regular interaction with others?

And yes, I'm still goofing off...lol...time to make that phonecall. sigh

Shit, sounds like you have had a very difficult life until now. I feel like giving you a hug after reading your post.

As for me, I've never lived completely on my own, that's simply not my thing. But I've had my own place for a few years, living in a big house where other students lived. Currently, I'm living together with my boyfriend and cat(s) and I really like it.

I have been living alone for the last 4-5 years. I love it. For now, I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, I doubt I could go back to having a 'roommate' again.

The first time I moved away from home, I had seven roommates... eek

Then I had one roommate and a gf who had two roommates...and the five of us were always together...

Then, I had two roommates, and the gf had one roommate, and the five of us lived together in a house that was converted into two adjoining apartments (only a door separated us, and it was more or less kept open)...

Then, I had one roommate and a gf I more or less lived with...

Then, I lived with my gf...

Then, I got married...

I was talking with my neice once, and she was about to move in with her bf...and she was saying how she was dreading giving up living alone...She said "You come home and put on YOUR music and drink YOUR wine and just chill...you can have popcorn for dinner if you want and nobody will say anything"...lol

My very first living arrangement after my parent's and the dorms at college was with technically 1 other person in a 1 bedroom apartment but it was a very unique situation in that she and all her friends were meth-heads and many of them were somewhat homeless, so there would always be at least 5-10 people there at any given time. It was, well, very weird. I was 19. Within a few months I moved out with a different friend and that's what I truly consider my first apartment.
Since then (and until 4-5 years ago) I've had anywhere from 1-5 roommates. I've never lived with a beau.

this is my first year ever on my own
i have 4 other housemates...

it gets lonely cuz i don't really hang out with anyone...
i have found people in my element that i get along with awesomely, but conflicting scheduels mean rare occasions where we can hang out

i'm somewhat of a hermit sad
hopefully that'll change next year...

I had 3 roommates in my Boston apartment, then back to my parents house until I bought my house. I lived there alone, then moved to L.A. and had the bestest roommate, Cris, who is one of my best friends of all time. Then I went back to Denver to my own house for a year or so, then I came back to Burbank, where I've been on my own for just over a year.

The times I've lived alone have been good and necessary, but the times with roommates have always been better. I'm a better person when people are around. I'm happier, and more prone to being active and productive.

I live alone and for the most part I love it. There are lonely times, especially if you're going through something rough. I lived with a few people before and it was fun, but if it were for a long period of time it would have driven me crazy.

Me.

I live alone on and off.

I currently rent out a room in my house for additional money to help with the bills and whatnot, but he's like a ghost roomate. I never see him, though I figured out that he's juggling 3 girls successfully, one for different nights and occasions. Wierd.

I never really lived alone. Moved out of the family home into the arms of a girl at 19. Before that I was in the army for a short time, but again that isn't alone.

That girl became a woman and that woman a wife. 14 years later we are still solid. She an I are like one so this might be like alone. We have lived alone for the 14 years.

I am sure if I did I would know what it is like to live ALONE. Broken heart and nothing to live for and all that. I know to some this may sound like a whoot. Not to I, to me it sounds like the wrong move. I never said I wanted to live alone.

LOL, cool. Well I have a belief that not as many readers like books rather then just quick points. I like to keep the responces short.

I do however believe in quitting jobs. I never made money until I started working for myself.

I live by myself right now. I've lived in this house since I was 7 years old. I'm going to be 39. I do miss an ex-roommate that I had living with him but I'm an only child so the transition was a little easier.

Before I got married I lived with 12 different flatmates at different times. It was exhausting. When we bought our house we had 3 "tenants", so when they finally moved out it was such a relief. Though I have only lived by myself between flatmates.

What does that feel like, living in the house you grew up in as an adult? Is it comforting?...Stifling?...

It's interesting. All my memories are here. Unfortunately and fortunately I sleep in the room where my mom passed away. It sounds morbid but it's comforting. I feel her around every once in a while.

I'm not stifled here but I've been trying to de-dad-ify my house. He doesn't have the same taste I do.

Never lived by myself - always had room/housemates in Uni and shared houses ever since.

I once thought the idea of living alone would be a bit weird until I house-sat a year ago. Suddenly, it was like "So I can have people over whenever I want? hmmm Or have the place to myself whenever I want? hmmm ". Very appealling.

There again, certain things have happened recently that have been greatly helped by having my friends around me. So I'm not sure what I'd prefer - I'd like to think I'm self-sufficient but it's nice to have that element of support too.

Ideally, I'd just like to end up in a big mansion with all my mates around me. cool

I lived by myself for a year after I divorced. I actually grew to quite like it although I didn't like it at first. I probably had the best time socially that I've ever had.

I'd never lived by myself up until a few years ago... up until 1998 it was me my brother my Mum and Stepdad (with various times of one or both my stepbrother's too) then when Mum passed away it was me my brother and his fucking bitch of an exgirlfriend (yes much bitterness still she didn't treat me very well redface) then went to live with my stepdad again in the old family home we were in for years before we moved out the previous year following him and Mum splitting...then I finally had a place of my own and it was BLISS! I really really miss living by myself. so a couple of years after that I lived by myself then I went backpacking so it was shared living and has been shared living in various forms since nod

I miss having a place of my own sigh

I can imagine. At least the people - for good or bad - that I've shared with have been people I actually knew (bar University, I suppose). It must take a lot of guts to move into a house where you know NO-ONE. eek

But, hey - it's you; Oz's Intrepid Traveller. mr.green

I really don't know which I'd prefer to be honest. I'd love my own place but it's expensive and I love having my mates around me. shrug.
