I used to have zero tolerance for drug addicts. My mother is a former crack addict. I have only recently understood how a person could possibly be so beaten down by life or had lived with so much tragedy that they could turn to the "comfort" of drug abuse. I would never do it, but I can empathize more now. I AM BEATLOAF

People do drugs for many reasons.... could be a genetic thing but thats really a cop out. They could feel like a low unloved unwanted peice of flying shit. It makes them feel better for THE TIME BEING yea all those problems come right back but then they keep doing them and thats where the addiction comes from.Maybe they had a horrible childhood or are in a really bad situation. It goes different from person to person.

Some people accept the risks and experiment with drugs out of curiousity. Not everyone that does them crashes and burns, though the burnouts seem to get the most attention and fanfare.

I swear I will NEVER understand what in the hell makes people try crack?????
Why???? You already know what destruction it causes.

Why???? You already know what destruction it causes. The same exact reason somebody would shoot heroin, drop acid, roll on X,pop benzoids/zannys or snort coke. Everybody has their reasons. Each drug has different effects and different highs just like each person that uses has different reasons and aspects to use in the first place.

It's hard enough for me to try to understand why anyone would start smoking cigarettes, so I don't even try to imagine the appeal of drug use. I've never met a longterm cigarette smoker that was glad they started and didn't wish they could quit.
I come from a long line of drug and alcohol abusers (parents, siblings, aunts and uncles), and seeing what it did to them is exactly what kept me scared straight. Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

I guess I always think it's peer pressure because I don't really understand it either. I do think vulnerable people get preyed on by dealers though.

I thought you were going to bring up the shirtless domestic abusers issue. Yeah.... The 1st. question that always come up in my mind when I watch this program is; What is it that gives a trailer trash guy the confidence that he's willin' to wrestle the cop before he gets arrested. Is he thinkin', " Here he comes...I got no shoes or shirt on...but I think I can take him."

When you first do a drug, there's a certain euphoria that you get from it. It is this state of mind that the drug addict chases after. They feel incomplete, and drugs fill the void.
What they really need is therapy. How embarrassing for them to be on TV, especially when you see the little kids involved. The drunk drivers are hilarious. "I was drinking water all damn day" <----- silly redneck voice

Why???? You already know what destruction it causes. thats my thoughts exactly !!!!! i mean, what goes through your mind as you sit down to try it the first time something like this im guessing, "well, i KNOW thousands of people are hooked on this shit and fucking up their lives on a daily basis. i've heard the jokes about folks combing carpet to get one last crumb to smoke. i know this is one that is INSTANTLY addictive so, sure, let me see what all the excitement is about and see if I am the lucky one that can smoke it and get away with it without it RUINING my entire life." I just found out yesterday that a guy I know (not very well) was found dead from a heroin O.D.
While I have been able to empathize more with addicts lately I still don't understand why anyone under the age of say 40 or 45 would even try stuff like heroin or crack (like 1sexymf said earlier) People always say "never say never." But fuck that! I KNOW that I will NEVER willingly smoke crack or shoot heroin. I have been too close to the destruction caused by addicts to ever go down that road. sorry about the loss of life thats sad... but, i gotta ask what would make you think that at the age of 40-45 someone would want to start a life like that ?? i mean, at this point in life, you should be fairly in tune with what you think is right and wrong and your morals and beliefs are pretty much shaped by then, i think its more the young kids that dont know exactly whats at risk in trying something so stupid than the adults. i can honestly say, although i have not yet made it to the magic age of 40, i hardly see myself sitting down and trying crack for the first time these days One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

But anybody that has seen the effects of those drugs (like children of addicts) should REALLY KNOW what those drugs can do. Am I being clear?? Do you get what I'm TRYING to say??
