I certainly have reservations about this film, but I thought Singer knocked it out of the park with the first two X-Men films

Agreed.

But X-Men and Superman are two different entities. I can only hope, that because of his great work on X-Men, that this movie will have some greatness.

Don't hurt me now Jedi... I'm not really liking the costume at this point either.

I totally agree with you on the costume. It just isn't the direction I would have gone with. Still, like the Batman & Green Goblin costumes, if the movie is good I'll forgive them.

There is no way this film will suck, THE movie of 2006 and of course there's also X-MEN 3 for everyone else...

personally, I thought the two x-men movies had good production values/actors but horribly inept/impotent/weak scripts.

The whole sacrifice thing at the end of xmen2 was like a knockoff china town version of star trek 2. yuck!

Although any good sacrifice at the end of a sci-fi film is going to be compared to TWOK which was one of the greatest ever. confused

well another "genre" example of death used quite effectively is Superman the movie. Or even the 1976 King Kong, which also has the human hero giving up on the heroine at the very end when she finally gets her fame but is completely wrecked. Shit, what about the galactica episode about starbuck's fate (the cylon sacrifice). there's also ET.... not to mention the glorified abandonment of earth and ascent into alien heaven at the end of CE3K... my favorite. Or The Exorcist..."come into me"....

but please, please don't copy/tribute star trek 2 like some middle school scifi writer!

Well, I hope you are right.

As for X3, if they are using the script that I'm pretty sure they are, then I have NO DOUBT that it will suck like a hoover.

hmmm I don't agree. Yes, it was a sacrifice, and the closing monologue with Jean repeating Xavier's monologue from the first film was a nod to WoK, but I really don't agree that it was a "knockoff" of WoK. I thought it was quite good. Singer did say that WoK was the inspiration for the closing monologue, but I don't think that makes it a complete rip-off.

As for the acting, the only one I really had a problem with was Halle Barry, and that is mainly because she is so incredibly miscast as Storm. Everyone else nailed their parts.

my problem is that there was no emotion at all created in me when I viewed these x-men films in their key plot moments, there were other secondary scenes that were very cool and exciting, but none of the important stuff like showdowns, threats, etc really were effective to me personally. I also didn't get that feeling of "I need to see this again" because it didn't seem like a rich alternate reality. I did get a bit of all this from the new Harry Potter movie!
