All morning I heard helicopters passing back and forth overhead, sometimes circling, and since I don't live in a crackhouse ar anywhere near Donald Trump it struck me as odd. But it was such a crisp morning and I had the day off that I took it in stride and went about my business.

At 10:30 I went and picked up my new glasses and the optomologist, or whatever he is called, was talking to his assistant, or whatever she is called, about the buzzing of the copters as I walked in. But it didn't seem at all strange to them, and their overall lack of concern was contagious...

But then around noon I was getting a haircut and the place was abuzz with rumors of some rapist who was out there on the loose. I overheard bits of knowledge such as the fact that this rapist dressed as a firefighter and forced his way into people's apartments to rape them. And that he was from Queens originally (carpetbagger!) but had a girlfriend in "the area." Some people seemed to feel that he didn't rape people at all but agreed that he was dangerous (as evidenced by the copters, I guess). I just chalked all this up to hair-salon gossip mongering and undertipped.

But later that evening as I was visiting my local wine store on the same street, I noticed that they had this laser-printed mugshot on their door as you walk in. As I was buying my Black Opal shiraz I jokingly asked the woman behind the counter whether this had anything to do with the helicopters that were flying around all morning, mainly to try and distract her from my bad haircut. She said yeah that the police "combed" the area in the morning and handed out these flyers to be posted on all the doors of the local shops. She confirmed most of the gossip I heard in my hair place.

Apparently he was out there running around all day. I doubt he was raping anybody this day, unless he has some kind of copter fetish, which is always possible, this being Brooklyn.

yeah, and i know more about what's going on at home than what's going on where i'm at. and when i was in brooklyn, i never, ever knew what wsa going on ever. as long as the train was still running, i was all set.
