BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

I'm really looking forward to this movie. I loved the short story it's based on and I've got faith in Heath and Jake (well, Jake at any rate) to do their roles justice. Who else is looking forward to it? biggrin

And what's the release date, anyway? confuse

The only thing I'm concerned about is the movie-going experience itself. Even watching Alexander on the big screen with it's barely-there homosexuality surrounded by immature homophobic rednecks was unpleasant as all fuck. There was apparently a sex scene shot for BBM, and even if it's not included, the kissing has definite potential for audience bullshit.

sigh Such are the joys of living in the BC Bible Belt...

I am counting the days. I'm not sure if it's going to have a limited release on Dec. 9th or if it's going to be released all over the U.S. on that date. I know that it will be shown before then at a film festival that I can't remember the name of.

I just hope that this will give the GREEN LIGHT for the movie THE DREYFUS AFFAIR. Ben Affleck bought the rights to it, the last I heard, but it never got made. A Baseball love story. The shortstop falls in love with the 2nd baseman.
I want Taye Diggs to play one of the characters.

Dec. 9th? Thanks. smile

Never heard of the Dreyfus Affair, but it conjurs up some horrifying images of Richard Dreyfus. eek

I'm sorry, but two gay cowboys seems as unlikely as two white guys fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world, a black guy playing golf, or an Aisan Basketball player. That'll be the day. neutral

Well, I'm sure you haven't gone to any gay rodeos. There are REAL cowboys there and they are REALLY gay.

OK, I'm willing to believe it if they wore Versace Jeans or something, but if you tell me the slap on a pair of Wranglers, I can't buy it. disbelief

Yeah I wanna see this too. I don't think most people will be too accepting of this movie where I live though, so they may not show it here. I've never heard of Dreyfus Affair though.....I'm not too crazy about Ben Affleck. Ben and Taye though? lol

I am unspeakably excited about the movie. I wasn't too excited when I first heard about the "gay cowboy movie, with Heath and Jake", because, as I've said elseweb, I'm not a fan of either of those actors, and "gay cowboy movie" implies an almost porno-esque lack of substance, but having seen the trailer, and then read the book a few dozen times, I am beyond impressed. While every review I've seen or heard of has been glowing for all involved parties(except for one woman who said it turned her husband gay), Mr. Ledger seems to be getting the lions share of praise for his performance. For more info, please check the LJ community "wranglers". For an e-copy of the book, go here: http://www.queervisions.c...mount.html. I am also impressed at how the two are handling themselves in interviews regarding the project. A month or two ago, the internet was abound with rumors that they were back peddaling, but every quote I've seen has been insightful and well spoken.

As for the film being warmly received, I have heard much talk that it's going to be marketed for what it is; a gay love story, although I've also heard that the primary demographic is women. I'm fairly confident that anyone who sees this movie is not going to be taken by surprise by it's subject matter. Not that that will stop the gents who need to make sure that everyone in the theatre knows that they, Straight McStraighty-pants, are not enjoying this GAY GAY movie, and in fact are bleeding internally from being subjected to it. I understand that as far as love scenes go, while one or two were cut, most remain. No one is trying to "de-gay" this fantastic film, and while we can't control Mr. McPants's reaction, we can also know that it's not for lack of warning.
