I have always said just stick me in a box and be done with it. I feel the funeral biz is a racket!I have told the family I can't be bothered to be there so neither should you. Think about me wherever you are and that is good enough. I certainly dont want to see all the expensive fanfare that seems circus like and silly to me and like Carrie I find open caskets realllllyyyyy ick!

Funerals are for the living not the dead anyway so my final remark is...do whatever brings you closure and donate all useable parts with the acception of reproductive.

agreed...especially the part about funerals being a racket. talking my family out of going the traditional route if they should have to deal with my death is an uphill battle. i come from a family that can intellectualize the absurdity of some conventional ways of doing things, yet they feel like they're going against something sacred if they actually stray from those conventions. it's frustrating.

Hey you! hug I so miss abusing you!!!! Damn this post just isn't the one to start with either! lol

If I go before Casey...I am guanteed

To be creamated
To not be put on life support or lie in a coma for a length of time
That if the time comes for "the pillow" it will be done swiftly and efficiently
That there will be a funeral party...not a funeral or memorial...but a party and if there is family still left...maybe a private showing before it's hammer time, but that's about it.

I don't really care if I leave a legacy or how the ceremony goes.

I do , however, want to be cremated and my ashes scattered in the ocean. And no tombstone or plaque or anything wierd thing like that to linger after I'm gone.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Herman. I hope you give him the type of remebrance you feel he deserved.

I've thought about my funeral and I certainly don't want any dirge. More a celebration.

I've only been to two funerals - both only a couple of years ago, within a few weeks of each other. The first one was my Gran's and that was one of the worst days of my life. There was no-one else closer in my family and I cried buckets that day.

The second was for one of my best friend's father, Bob, who died suddenly on holiday. It was pretty tragic circumstances but the funeral - weird as this sounds - was one of the most uplifting, joyous experiences I've ever had. Bob was a jazz drummer, a bit of a showman, and he always said he'd like a New Orleans-type funeral. There was a marching band leading the funeral car and a jazz interlude during the service, which turned into 'When The Saints Go Marching In'. lol I've never seen so many people cry tears of sadness and joy at the same time. It was exactly what he wanted.

Reincarnate

yes, I have it semi-planned.

I don't care what people do provided they're not forced to sing hymns and I'd like "What a Wonderful World" by either Louis Armstrong or Eva Cassidy and "The Circle of Life" from the Lion King played. (In funerals I've been to the worst part is always when you're forced to sing and you really don't feel like it. I'd rather have songs people can listen to and join in if they like).

I want people to know I loved life when I go and that things move on.
