I worked in a convenience store for nine years so I guess that qualified as blue collar. It certainly wasn't by choice though. When I got out of business college, every desk job I applied for had the same question...."Do you have any experience? We need someone with experience." It used to make me furious because how the hell can you get experience if no one gives you any.
I've been at a desk job since 1998 so now I'm a white collar worker....although Andy don't wear no white shirts. Mine are more like black, red, yellow, purple, etc. Hell, I gotta be clean! It's all about who you know though. If a friend of mine (who was a customer of mine in the convenience store) had not helped me to get a job where I am now by highly recommending me, I would still be stuck in a damn convenience store. Andy is a four letter word.

I'm a non-profit collar. I wear jeans and sneakers to work daily. And blue collar doesn't mean uneducated - my boyfriend has a fine arts degree and he works as a janitor, because arts jobs are hard to come by. He'd rather not be doing the work he does, but it pays our bills and we've never defined our lives by our jobs.

I come from a working-class background and I have a white-collar job (I guess) but, as long as your work pays the bills who cares what you do

I work for in the Construction department. We are on the bottom floor of the coroporate office and we eat donuts and wear cotton and denim. Folks on the second and third floors wear suits and eat things like protein shakes and low carb salads for lunch. But that's what makes this country great, isn't it?!

I'm a white-collar worker. While my parents would have supported me in any honest career choice, I do think that being raised by a white-collar family had some influence upon my decision. As a young child, I just assumed that getting a bachelor's degree (if not more) was an expected part of the educational process. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

But seriously, what's the criteria for blue or white?
Is it the degree? How much you work w/ your hands? What you have to (or don't have to) wear? If you're with a Union? I really feel like a cross between the two

Thats a shitty thing to say. Anyhow I don't know where I fall in...I don't even really use the 4 year college degree that I paid for. I guess it just depends on what job I feel like working at the moment. [Edited 11/21/05 15:33pm]
