Great Opportunities...

Recently, I just received notice by mail that I was accepted onto The National Dean's List. Last night, I also received info that I was "nominated to be apart of the International Scholar Laureate Program: Delegation of Business." Ok, so, Im estactic by this point until I see the price for all the trips which are to Australia, China and Central/Eastern Europe. sigh They are between $5,000-7,000. Im so depressed. I really would like to go and experience this but I know that I have slim to none chances of going...cry I would have to have all the money by Feb.

What should I do? Loans? Financial Aid? Forget about the trip? Im so depressed about this.

Loans! Do what you have to to finance it. Trips like that you will never regret taking.

you know what? do you have guidance counselors at your school? when i was in college, everyone had a guidance counselor assigned to them and we were encouraged to contact them if we had any questions about anything related to our education. i never took advantage of that, and i really probably should have. if you were assigned to a counselor, contact them asap about this. they might have some helpful answers for you, especially since you seem to have a lot going on for you right now.

You could try grants, I am not familiar with your field but you may be able to get subsidised. Check the charities in your area of work and ask, ask as many people as you can. Certainly conferences often award certain delegates the opportunities for travel grants so contact the event organisers. Career development grants are also possibly an option. But go for loans as a last resort, whatever you do don't miss out.

you have a lot of resources at your school, i bet. ideally, universities are (or should be) set up with the understanding that you're there to study your chosen field and not to get caught up in a bunch of red tape that keeps you from learning. it's just a matter of knowing your resources, and if you get static, being pushy enough to make sure you get treated right.
