I only ever made one thing in any art class I really liked. I had this big old spoon a friend had stolen from a coffee shop for me. We both agreed it was a really nice spoon. In fact, I think it still had a bit of dried coffee on it, right in the center of the spoon part. And it was really big, and silver and very smooth. Very clean lines. And I stood it upright and hooked it up to a motor so it turned slowly around in circles. And this was nestled in the middle of a very large coffee can, all colored silver. It was sorta poking out if the open top, but you could look down in it and see all the wires and things. And I created a couple of tiny worker people out of a flat black wire that were hanging out on the spoon in various places, kinda looking like they were hammering away. And inside the can I also had a music box chimey song thing that was hooked up to a motor that went really fast so you couldn't make out the song, it just made this repeating tinkling sound. It was a really neat sound. Delicate but very rhythmic. And then in wire letters all around the outside it spelled out something to the affect of: We were in the coffeeshop when Chris held this precious spoon up to her ear and lamented, "I wish that when you held this spoon up to your ear you could hear the spoon factory."

I never made anything again. I still have it, too, somewhere at my parents house. I don't know where my creativity went...

i made some fun stuff in high school - i got a pencil drawing of david byrne in his big suit published in our high school yearbook one year, and i made some silkscreens in art class that resulted in some cool t-shirts. i also reproduced a kenny scharf painting that my mom hung in the living room for years. it kinda clashed, but hey - she was a proud mama.

i very nearly went to art school for college, but i decided i didn't have the discipline, so i went for writing instead.

i work on both traditional and digital art...i don't have enough room in my apartment to do the traditional stuff that i really wanna do (like learning how to make stenciled/screenprinted stuff), so i've been working on my graphic art skills. i just finished up with this about a week ago. it's one of the favorite pieces i've worked on in my life so far.

another fave thing i did was back in high school; i was the in-house artist for my school newspaper. someone on the newspaper staff did an article about farting--yes, farting--and they needed an illustration to go along with it. one of the other artists for the paper refused to do it (hell if i know why), so they asked me if i'd do the illustration. i said "cool, i'll do it". i made a drawing of two cartoon dudes...one had his pants pulled down, and the other guy was behind 'im holding a lit match by the first guy's ass. everybody on the newspaper staff thought i had a lotta balls to do it, and admired me for it. i still have the issue with the article/drawing but it's at my dad's house.

I made a drawing of Prince out of different coloured chalks. I won a clay hamburger some final year student had made for my efforts.

You should definitely dig it up at your parents' house and post a picture!

My illustrations and photos are hanging all over my apartment walls...I kinda surprised myself with how easily I picked up pointillism.

This one got reviewed in the Los Angeles Times... (after I framed it and everything, of course..lol)
