I had a house fire yesterday...UPDATED WITH PICS

...the kitties and I are fine, but a lot of my stuff is damaged or destroyed. I'm living with my mom and I think I'm still in shock.
Please keep me in your prayers.

Thank you, sweetie hug
It seems like I'll be able to salvage a lot of my clothes and some of my furniture...but, all my kitchen stuff is gone...my bed is gone...I think my bedroom furniture is gone...it's hard to say because they let me back into the house only for a few minutes to gather some stuff before they boarded it up. I'll be able to go back in a few days with a truck and an army to get the rest of the stuff that is salvagable.

Do you know how it happened? The important thing is that you are safe and the cats are safe. If you've lost sentimental stuff, that'll be hard to deal with but you can move on with your memories intact. I lost all my possessions once due to my ex and it hurts to lose all the things you cherish. I pray you get through this dollface kiss2

Mate, the most important thing is that you're safe and so are your loved ones pray

I can understand your shock as well. It's not easy coming to terms with the devastation and destruction of fire. I can empathize with people in your situation, I really can. rose I wish I could offer you more help but I'm unsure of how the system works in the U.S. Contact your local Fire Authority and see if they have a 'post-trauma' team.

Take care hug

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, hon.I went through this a couple years ago and it takes a while to get through it all.Takes time to deal with all the emotions that go along with losing your home like that. Try to remember that when one door closes another one opens up. pray hug

I'm also wondering how it started. Maybe you shouldn't try cooking those cajun dishes anymore. wink

Hey buddy ... she was an innocent bystander in this. Do not assume.

She lives, or shall I say lived, in a two-story flat, upstairs. It happened Sunday and the downstairs family had a marital problem-spat and some time later in the afternoon hours (around 1600 local/4pm ET) someone set fire to the house, actually the garage.

Someone started a fire regardless of who was in the house.

The family had four small children and from what Applekisses has told me, all four are under the age of 7, with the youngest being about 1. The mother cannot control the children. She would let them do whatever to the property, regardless if it was Applekisses' property. The children have destroyed Applekisses' personal property numerous times and the mother and father do nothing. The 26-year-old mother strange, to say the least. Yes, she has involved the police and the landlord, but to no avail. The police do know of the family downstairs and have repeatedly come to the house for various problems throughout the year.

The garage caught fire first. The fire spread rapidly to the back of the house, gutted the first floor, some of the second floor, and the attic. The children and the mother (no father in sight, maybe at work, I do not know) ran from the house with the clothes on their back and nothing else. At least Applekisses was able to return into the house with a fireman to retrieve some things before the fire department boarded up the house.

She might be able to go into the house one last time to clean and move stuff, but the fire marshall has not said anything yet. The structure might be too unstable for anyone to go into, which sucks, because I and a handful of friends want to help her clean out the house and help her move.

The fire department, from what I hear, is labeling the fire suspicious in nature and is not ruling out arson.

The house, Applekisses said to me tonight, Monday evening, might be demolished even though the four fire companies were quick to respond to put the fire out. She says that about 75 percent of her floor is okay, but covered in soot and water and whatever else. Her tv and new DVD are trashed and her bed is gone as well. All of her kitchen is burnt.

Think before you say things, TMPletz. Do not assume, and DO NOT ASSUME she was cooking. If you want the real and complete story, talk to me. I know a lot, and not just from the fire. There is more crazy stupid stuff that has happened for the past year since the family moved in. And if you want to know, she was getting ready to see her mother, like she always does on a Sunday afternoon. It was supposed to be a normal Sunday afternoon.

No one called 911, no one yelled "fire." She did call 911 once she realized her house was on fire. She did. No one else.

The people downstairs scrambled and left her to fend for herself. Luckily the firemen rescued her cats. She could have died, her cats could have died. Luckily this did not happen in the nighttime hours. It would have been horrific if it happened overnight.

Applekisses will bounce back. She always does and she knows she has a lot of friends she can count on. Say a prayer for her. I know I am. She also says thank you to all who have spread the warmth and love her way. She needs it.

I am severly upset and for those that know me I do not get upset often, but when I do, watch out. The family, or person, or persons, that caused this, had no idea the ramifications of what would happen afterward. The fire did not just affect that family, but Applekisses, me, her immediate family, her landlord (who will have to rebuild or move on) as well as many of you on this board. It is just not fair.
