Talking on the phone.

I HATE HATE HATE talking on the phone. Are there other people that feel the same way. I mean I'll do it, but ughhhhh. I'd rather go over that person's house than to stay on the phone.

....I'm only sayin'.

i really REALLY hate talking on the phone. i'm right there with you!

i don't like feeling tethered to a phone when i'm at home - and YES, i have a cordless, but i don't like being on the phone with people and trying to get other things done at the same time, and they're saying "what are you DOING??" as if i can't wash the damn dishes and pay attention to the conversation at the same time. even without a cord, i still feel like i'm on a leash when i'm on the phone.

ALSO, i hate talking to people when i can't see their faces or body language. when you have a conversation on the phone, you're limited to experiencing the encounter with ONE sense as opposed to the FIVE you get in an in-person conversation. to me, it makes a difference.

sometimes, when it's been a long time and i want to catch up with someone who lives far away, i can deal with talking on the phone. but give me a choice and i'll say no to the phone every time. i truly dislike phone conversations.

I can take it or leave it. But usually take it. Oh, who am I kidding, I'm totally a phone person. I've spent hours and hours on the phone with some people but there are those few times I just don't feel like saying much.
I had a friend once who I'd watch tv with over the phone. Hours at a time and we sometimes wouldn't even be saying much.
I speak with my closest friends almost daily on the phone, even if its only a few minutes here and there.

I am a phone person...sorta. I have a few I call and talk to mostly long distance...but not everyone. I pace too much on the phone. And yesterday I was removing a pot pie from the oven while on the phone and the dang thing fell over into the stove. I was like "Oh crapping" on the phone and had to let me friend go. Of course I had to call her back and tell her what happened.

I hate the phone too. I can talk to two people on the phone longer than 5 minutes...my boy, and my best friend Christine. Other than that I usually don't even pick up.

I love talking to people in general, and since they are so often too lazy or "busy" to meet up, the phone comes in handy. I honestly don't think i'm tormenting them too much with my blabber because I often get to hear that "time flies in a good way" when they talk to me (at least I think that's a good thing hmm).

One nice thing about talking on the phone is that it's "pure" conversation. It's what you say and how you say it that matters, not what you're doing in the meantime or how you look or which faces or gestures you make. I kind of like that sometimes. It helps you focus on and enjoy what is being said.

I'm much the same way, I think. I can be so audio-focused myself. I think the phone can be an incredibly intimate medium cause you are so focused on the words chosen, vocal 'quality', intonation and whatnot. I'm sometimes amazed at what we can tell about someone from the simple sounds of a sigh, from what is not being said, all the little details.
Yes, I do love the phone. lol.

Do you get stressed out if you can sense that the other person doesn't enjoy it as much? I do sometimes. On the other hand, I'd like to think that I make it more enjoyable for them than they're used to by showing my own enthusiasm for it.

Stressed? Nah. If its obvious we don't have much to say, I'll just end the conversation. lol.
But I suppose I can be annoying a bit cause sometimes I've been known to call people just cause I wanna listen to someone, wihtout having much to say myself. There's only a few people I do that with, though. One in particular comes to mind...

Well, I wasn't really talking about times when you don't have much to say, but rather when the other person just seems a bit uncomfortable with the whole situation of talking on the phone. It's a bit like a bad date; you both want to talk and you do talk, but there's tension in the air somehow. I suppose you could still hang up on them in those cases, but it feels like a waste.

But I suppose I can be annoying a bit cause sometimes I've been known to call people just cause I wanna listen to someone, wihtout having much to say myself. There's only a few people I do that with, though. One in particular comes to mind...

Some people love to do all the talking and some people love to do all the listening, so if you feel like listening I guess you can just call up the appropriate type of person, like you said. It can get a bit complicated when you and/or the other person isn't always like that though. Maybe both are in the mood for listening at the same time? lol That's happened to me a few times, but then my talkative side usually kicks into action after a while.

ahhh... Yes, I know what you're talking about. See, those are the non-phone people. giggle

Yeah, sometimes there's just an awkwardness, I suppose. And that can happen even with someone you're rather close with. I can be quite shy myself, so the first few times I talk to someone other than a quick, hey do you wanna meet for lunch, kinda thing can be that way. Again, I usually just think of a reason to end the conversation. lol.
