To cuddle or not to cuddle

It has come to my understanding that men in general reach a certain point (now and then, not regular) where they are "done" cuddling or hugging. They simply had enough attention, physical contact or other forms of warmth and love from their lady.

So I wonder: besides all the other differences between men and women:
Why is it that women can't seem to get enough of cuddles and hugs and kisses and all that TLC, and men need a break from it now and then?

And 2nd-ly: are there women out there who don't like to hug and cuddle?

I have to admit, My sister and I were raised in a very warm and cuddly home where there was ALWAYS time and energy to show love. Wether that was a kiss on your father and mother's cheeks as you would leave the room to study upstairs or just snuggling up under your fathers arm as he was on the couch reading his newspaper. There was always time for a cuddle or a hug. So as adults, my sister and I are used to showing our love through physical contact (not meant sexually in this forum). You know... cuddling, hugging, kissing, touching, whatever affectionate action... we're very touchy-feely so to speak.

Anyone want to add to this subject? smile

this thread reminds me of the episode of Friends when Rachel thought the guy she was seeing was too close to his sister.

It must be fun at Xmas though.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I come for a family where hugs and cuddles were 'not done'. So cuddling to me is somewhat uncomfortable with most people.

I am indeed the kind fo man that needs his time alone at moments.

That's the saddest thing I've ever heard. sad

I don't think I could stay in a relationship where I didn't get the physical attention I needed. Cuddling/hugging/etc. is that important to me.

I've generally been the one who's hugged my girlfriends more than they've hugged me. I'm not sure if that says more about them or about me. confused

Just the thought of 'men in general' being that way...

Thanx Susannah. I am curious too! Some people are more cuddly than others. One of my girls had to "teach" herself to cuddle with her son, since she wasn't raised with cuddles and kisses and hugs, but she did think it was important and healthy for a child, so she taught herself and thus gave her child warmth and affection by cuddling with him every day. (eventhough it felt strange to her at first).

We are all different people. Some people (men only?) might need an occasional break. Some people (women only?) can't get enough of it.
Is it really that black and white? That is all I want to know. I think there are cuddly men and less-cuddly women out there as well.

I'm a very affectionate person and always will be... but I know there are people in general and close to me who are uncomfortable with hugs and public affection so I try and respect that

Well, that is not a fact. This is what I hear when I talk to my friends who are in a relationship. My sisters boyfriend could confirm that my sister was very cuddly and that he didn't need it as much as she did. And another friend said: "It is a typical man-thing..."

Well in my case, I can cuddle but there comes a time when I want to be in my own space. I don't need the constant touch and feel of my partner for any reason as it will get on my nerves after a prolonged time in my personal space. I don't need to hold hands all the time either, and just will get tired of this as well. I am with you...you know I am with you, so I see no need to continually feel it necessary to touch and feel on me all the time. I am not that person.

Carry on.....Whap!

I am not a cuddler. I think it's mostly a woman thing and most guys do it just to keep the woman happy so they will get rewarded. The only time i really do it is if i am hoping for some sack time or just making out. It sounds bad but it's true. I do not need lots of affection. I think it's mainly for women who are needy/insecure and who did not get enough attention from Daddy.

My friend has a girlfriend who cannot seem to get enough of it. When we are out she is always doing something like putting her head on his shoulder. Wanting to hold his hand. Always cuddling up close to him. All of us just roll our eyes. She is one of the most annoying women i have ever come across. She is homely too. Looks like a parrot.

I have frequently thought that I was the only woman who didn't like to cuddle. A kiss on the cheek as a greeting or a pat on the butt every now and again is fine, but I don't like hand holding or public displays of affection. I also don't really like to cuddle after sex. I have learned to do it if my man needs affection. I have also learned to talk about this early in relationships because I had a boyfriend who ended our relationship because he was "starved for affection", but he never mentioned it while we were together.

Oh goodness. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely need my own space at times. It can't be a constant, like you said. That would drive me crazy also.

I am a guy and I love to cuddle. I like human contact. Don't think I will ever outgrow that. I like to "spoon" while sleeping (but end up on the other side of the bed in the morning shrug).

I hug my mom, grandma's and saying good buy to my best friend who I only see once a year.

I'm more of a space kind of gal. I need my space. My husband is a cuddler. I'm used to it now and can reciprocate, but it used to be kind of unnerving. I've never been overtly affectionate. I have a kid sister that is the biggest cuddler, hugger, kisser, in your face person I've ever known, and it honestly drives me nuts. Get away from me, you!

I really think your need to hug is closely related to the relationship you have/had/have had with your parents.

My mother and I used to cuddle a lot. She broke up with my father two years ago and since then she's very agressive, also towards me. Whenever she wants to hold me I get disgusted or at least very uncomfortable, because it feels so fake.

Recently I've thought about the fact that my hunger to cuddle, to have physical contact with the people I like, has diminished greatly.

Still, my boyfriend can hug me as much as he wants. I love that.
