World's Ugliest Dog dies
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Sam, the tiny dog whose hairless body and crooked teeth earned him a reputation as the World's Ugliest Dog, has died.

Sam initially frightened his owner after she agreed to take him as a rescue dog.

The pooch died Friday, just short of his 15th birthday, his owner said.

"I don't think there'll ever be another Sam," Susie Lockheed said, adding: "Some people would think that's a good thing."

Sam won the ugliest dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair this summer for the third year in a row. The pedigreed Chinese crested had made appearances on TV in Japan, radio in New Zealand and in Britain's Daily Mirror tabloid. He also had met Donald Trump on a talk show set.

Lockheed said she initially was terrified of Sam when she agreed to take him in as a rescue dog six years ago on a 48-hour trial basis. Although she fell in love with him, his appearance repulsed her then-boyfriend and prompted the man to break up with her.

Later, however, Sam became a matchmaker by bringing together Lockheed and her current beau, who saw a picture of the two on an online dating site.

Lockheed said she had Sam euthanized after she learned Sam's heart was failing.

She said she's felt a little lost ever since, and is sleeping with Sam's favorite toy — a stuffed bear he picked up and carried home.

Wow. Whoever wrote this is amazing. I really felt sad for his passing, though everytime I see that picture, I picture him diggin through my garbage, flippin out and settin the can on fire to make sure he's dead. I think it was the image of the owner with the chew toy. That's so damn sad.

Shit. If everytime I went by the crib, her fuckin scary burnt blind hairless weasel dog kept sniffin around my leg and shit, I'd leave her too.

I remember seeing some video clips of the dog while they were interviewing the owner, and it seemed so cute. Yeah it looked spooky in the pics, but when you saw it on video, you could tell it was still a nice pet.

aww no matter what he looked like she loved him and I feel for her.

His condition is really the result of a breeding fluke for that type of dog, believe it or not. Kind of like certain cats are born blind, Sam was just that special genetic variant that rarely rarely happens with that breed.

Unfortunately, he was also born blind.

He was actually about to be put down for being "un adoptable", but she took pity on him.

yeah, I was just about to mention that that woman has a heart of gold, because I doubt many people would take him. I'm not gonna lie either, but I would have a hard time looking at that him at first. It would take some time for me to get adjusted to him, because he honestly looks like a mutant rat creature from a horror movie or something.
