National Novel Writing Month Begins TODAY! www.nanowrimo.org
NaNoWriMo begins TODAY! For the month of November, I will be trying to complete a 50,000 word novel. It's kind of the "Boston Marathon" for writers, in which the goal isn't to create a masterpiece but just to accomplish something for the sake of doing it. I have 781 words so far...not much, but it's a beginning! Anyone else doing this?

uh no.
good luck with that, what's the premise? We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

i'm writing a story about someone ridiculously famous who in reality doesn't even exist. it's kind of a pop culture fairy tale in reverse. i hope.

funny, I always think of writing the Great Novel, but truly I don't have time. My nephew is writing this great story right now..he has approx 25 chapters.
I always see stuff that I can start a story around, like this guy who is at this same pay phone everyday at the same time. I could create a whole book around that guy. not this year Anxy I have to finish school first.. thanks for the encouragement though... Does it have to be a novel? Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

pretty much, yeah...i think mainly because they want you to WRITE every day...not research or interview or anything else that would get in the way of getting words on paper/screen every day. if you can write a memoir or something like that, i'm sure it would be just as acceptable.

A biography? well, again, if it entails doing research or any work that's going to take you away from the actual act of WRITING, it's not going to be a good idea. if you can write a whole biography from memory or with minimal research/interview hours, then ok. but i think that would be kind of on the impossible side.

I think I shall write a novel on our Vegan cows. I thought of a protection method.

Seems a bit pointless then, an exercise in futility? well, no. not really. not if you like to write fiction. it's more about the process of writing 50,000 words than it is about completing a polished, marketable novel. most people who like to write go through life never writing anything they could consider "major" or "substantial". this is merely an exercise to help people embark on bigger, more ambitious projects...or at the very least, people can walk away saying 'i wrote 50,000 words of a story!' it's a great exercise - not futile at all.

I guess so, if it to raise awareness etc and encourage others who wouldn't normally write, to write. I just feel that if I have time to write a novel I might as well write something I'd like to write, make it good, and try and get it published. You will have to post your novel on Dec 1st so we can have a read, good luck Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

I have six words so far. You've just read them (shit, now I have fifteen!).
My novel is about a guy replying to threads on a website called "prince.org". The story unfolds strictly in the form of discussion-board posts. May I have your signature on the release below? I, Anxiety, agree that any of my writings on the website known as "prince.org" (hereby known as "The Org") may be used by the Org-user known therein as "Ace" in his submission for the "NaNoWriMo" competition . I hereby waive all of my rights and claims to royalties from said project. _____ Anxiety _____ dated
