Richard Donner's Cut of Superman II

From Dreamwatch magazine. I've been hoping for this for years. Hopefully, this will wind up being a full-fledged new cut done by Donner:

superman superman superman superman superman superman superman superman superman superman superman

Oh my lord, i LOVE Supes II! It was the best one, by far. I remember seeing that sucker with my dad in the theaters at LEAST five times when I was a kid.

Case

I caught what's known as the KCOP version of "Superman II" when I was a kid, which has a TON of cut footage spliced in. I also want to see the full and uncut version of "Supergirl." TERRIBLE movie, but fun in a camp way.

I'm excited to see this, but honestly, I can't imagine Superman II being better than it is. It's a perfect comic book movie!

I'm a huge fan of Superman the movie, and understand how silly superman II is in comparison, just watch them back to back.... I would love to see a Donner cut, but how can there be a cut if he didnt get to film all of it? Also will they restore Superman the movie? the current dvd release has additional stuff like added sound effects that just fucking ruin it if you know the ORIGINAL.

See, I don't think it's silly at all. I love the first Superman, but I think II is even better, especially the villains.

Apparently, there were huge chunks of the film edited out and then replaced with new footage. If I'm not mistaken, a whole lot of the silliness with Zod having all these weird, new powers (since when do Kryptonians levitate people, or shoot lazers out of their fingers?), and stuff like the giant saran wrap superman were additions after Donner was let go.

As for the first film, don't count on it. The DVD is Donner's preferred cut.

I like the story idea, but there's too much silliness. And the flying scenes aren't as dramatic and cool.... back then.

I know, but I've always heard that he preferred the cut that was released a couple of years ago. Maybe he's pulling a Ridley Scott, and deciding on a third cut? I guess time will tell.

woot!

This is great news! thumbs up!

Was Brando filmed for anything for II? I always thought he would have been a better fit for the parent role than giving it to Kal-El's mother instead.

Yes, Brando had quite a few scenes. Basically, they filmed all of his scenes when they were filming for the first movie. He realized that the Salkinds were trying to screw him by, essentially, paying him for one movie but using his footage for two. He threatened legal action, and thus all of his scenes were re-filmed by Lester for the theatrical release (using the mother character instead). Rumour had it that Brando, shortly before his death, had given Donner permission to restore his scenes if he ever got the chance to do so.

Here's hoping that rumour is true, and that Brando's estate gives them clearance to use that footage!
