The Projects What exactly are The Projects? Are they like British council houses or flats? Are they exclusively black areas, because that's the way they seem to be portrayed?
My understanding is that they're government-funded living areas, but I don't know much more than this (and am not even certain that the government pays for them, perhaps they're subsidised?) Anyway, I hope this doesn't turn into a contentious thread.

The projects = government subsidized multi-family housing for low income people.
Where I live most of the projects are integrated and some are only for the elderly but in many cities projects are predominately black. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Real Old-Schoolers didn't call 'em "PJs"...
...they called 'em, well,The Projects. I used to live in a residential section of Brooklyn between the Brevoort and Kingsborough projects.
