touched my life story...you really shouldn't have. Let me know if you need any "inside" wink information.

Okay. Is "jack-ass" hyphenated?

NaNoWriMo begins TODAY!

For the month of November, I will be trying to complete a 50,000 word novel. It's kind of the "Boston Marathon" for writers, in which the goal isn't to create a masterpiece but just to accomplish something for the sake of doing it.

I have 781 words so far...not much, but it's a beginning! smile

Anyone else doing this?

I've never even heard of this. It's an intriguing concept. I haven't written anything in a very long time, and I need to get down to it. Stephen King's memoir was actually really inspiring, and I never really followed through on it. sad

i'm at 1153 words now...i broke my first thousand words! biggrin

it's not a huge deal, but it's a little encouraging to be in the realm of four-numbered word counts.

even if you fail, you still wrote more words that you might have otherwise. it's really a no-lose project!

well, no. not really. not if you like to write fiction. it's more about the process of writing 50,000 words than it is about completing a polished, marketable novel. most people who like to write go through life never writing anything they could consider "major" or "substantial". this is merely an exercise to help people embark on bigger, more ambitious projects...or at the very least, people can walk away saying 'i wrote 50,000 words of a story!' it's a great exercise - not futile at all.

exactly. It's just the act of accomplishing and finishing a novel, regardless how shitty and rough it is. My friend is doing this and has set up a blog about her progress. I'm not doing it (too much other shit going on this month) but maybe I will next year.

good luck, anx! I think it's killer that you're participating.

thank you! i'm just doing it as an exercise and to get a lot of half-baked ideas out of my head and on to a page, even if the story winds up being a piece of crap that i want nobody to read (which is altogether possible).

But think how lovely it will be if you find something truly worth pursuing during this; if you get a REAL story idea out of it!

My heart is with all you writers this month. heart thumbs up!

National novel writing month, huh.

Well, I guess I'll pull out that novel I started seven years ago. I wrote about a hundred pages ...then just got lost and started reinventing stuff. I became so overwhelmed I couldn't recover. I put it away and starting writing something else.

The characters keep visiting me every day though. I think they want some closure too.

U can all do it!!! There's nothing like the feeling you get when you see your novel, bound, printed and ready to be shared with the world. It's priceless...
