gotta go with the master, julia child - she did such a great job of making people unafraid to take on big recipes, and she had a great sense of humor about herself.

Paula Deen is adorable, and Bobby Flay makes some great stuff, but my favorite would have to be...
Sara Moulton I like her because I don't get a headache watching her show (Paula can be a bit loud and crazy sometimes). She doesn't do disgusting dishes that are just weird for the sake of being weird and not something you would actually eat. And she tends to go into actual details about the food, not sit there and ramble on about her life. She's first and foremost a cook, on a cooking show. She's not trying to be some crazy character.

Julia was incredible in her heyday. Beef Tartar actually seemed within reach watching her. Towards the end there though it was getting difficult to watch her. She could barely stand up straight and face the camera, and (not to sound disrespectful), it was like watching a puppet corpse on strings when they had her as a guest on cooking shows. She always cracked me up.

I watch Home Plate w/ Marvin Woods sometimes, but I think that's only shown on Turner South so a lot of people don't get that channel. Tyler Florence is alright too. I used to like Emeril, but he bored me after a while. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

I don't think any of the cooks on TV today are transcendent.
I LOVE Rachel Ray and am a big fan, but she's really not a good cook. I watch her because she seems to have orgasms while eating and has a really great personality. I respond in the same intense way about food ...so I can relate. I love cooking and always moan about my food especially when people are showing signs they enjoy it. Paula Dean doesn't moan, but I guess I like her the best of everyone on T.V. She makes accessible food ... none of that high falutin cuisine. (I do like some cuisine). BUT Paula still does that old fashioned southern thing with is deep fried and high in fat. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen her put a whole stick of butter into a dish. Frightening. And that sugar! oh god
