~*~What are your thoughts/beliefs... concerning our children of todays' future? Do you live for the future, or yourself?

question

What are your thoughts/beliefs (now)... concerning our children of todays' future?

How much of a responsibility do you feel is yours... whether or not they are yours or someone else's?

Do you live for the future, or do you live for yourself!?

I wish I could honestly say for the future... but being truthful I do live for myself at this stage in life

I have no children of my own and no man in my life so it's all too easy to be self-indulgent and I'm guilty of that very much redface

Lyrics

There are times
I find it hard to sleep at night
We are living through such troubled times
And every child that reaches out
For someone to hold
For one moment, they become
My own

And how can I pretend that
I don’t know what is going on
When every second
Every minute
Another soul is gone

And I believe
That in my life
I will see…
An end to hopelessness
Of giving up
Or suffering

If we all stand together this one time
Then no one will get left behind
Stand Up For Life
Stand Up and hear me sing
Stand Up For Love

I am inspired and hopeful
For each and everyday
That’s how I know that things are going to change

And how can I pretend that
I don’t know what is going on
When every second
Every minute
Another soul is gone

And I believe
That in my life
I will see…
An end to hopelessness
Or giving up
Or suffering

If we all stand together this one time
Then no one will get left behind
Stand Up For Life
Stand Up For Love

And it all starts right here
And it starts right now
One person stands up and
And the rest will follow
For all the forgotten
For all the unknown

I am going to sing this song

And I believe
That in my life
I will see…
An end to hopelessness
Of giving up
Or suffering

If we all stand together this one time
Then no one will get left behind
Stand Up For Life
Stand Up
And sing
Stand Up… For Love

For Love
For Love…

i don't live for anyone but i try to live for everyone.

and i'm not just trying to skate by with some funky wordplay here - i don't feel an obligation to make the world a better place specifically for children, though i do feel an obligation to make the world a better place in general, which of course INCLUDES children. and our elders. and our peers. and animals. and...

that's a deep question. Now that I have a son, I worry about the future WAY more than I used to. it's a scary thought to think we could still be in this war we're in (or another one)...in 16 more years...when my son will be 18! But..on the other hand I feel my son will play an important role in the future (as all children will) so I also look forward to it.
as far as ..do I live for the future or myself? that's a weird question...I just live my life the best way I can...don't know if that's for myself or what?

I would like to say that I hope both freespirit and Natisse have children some day...you both seem like you make the greatest moms. smile

A world where all efforts are focused on providing for the future generations would be cool. Puts our existence into perspective.

Ever since my daughter was born.....everything has been all about her future. I guess I used to live day to day just thinking about myself, but now I'm thinking of her happiness before mine.
She's at that age where everything is still new and exciting to her....so planing for her future is important right now.

I could not have said it better myself Anxiety!!

I feel the same way.
I do not have children, nor do I plan to but I am still very concerned about the state of the world today.
We all leave a footprint here on this earth so I try to do my part to keep this earth beautiful for others to enjoy. I feel it is a blessing to be here and it is our responsibility to take care of it and not destroy it.
It upsets me to see things like our magnificant forests and prestine lands being stripped away and knowing that someday ppl will be here but have no idea how beautiful it was because it will all be gone.
I guess we will always have pictures....

I know this question is quite internal.

Every word shared here is valid. I have such a headache thinking about much lately.

These thoughts that I have... my concerns about our future, I wake everyday knowing my purpose here is for the future, as well... as for myself. I struggle with giving to myself at times (I even feel guilty), but I do find my moments.

I can't even write about all I feel, at least not right now... rose (My writing is long...)

However, I would like to continue to hear your voice, your thoughts... for each and every one of us have them...

We all have our concerns... and much of it relates to our future, all our future and even concerns souly for ourself.

...

Thank you for sharing... I would hope to hear more, if you wish...

Please do.

I do believe all efforts all important...

However, I also feel strongly about our Children today... they truly are our future. Many children now will live long after us... and it goes on...

Instilling positive experiences in these children, whether our own or within our jobs... it makes every bit of a difference...

And I know.

Their future we cannot determine at this point... but we must never underestimate the power of positive in their lives, at all times.

Life is hard... yes, it is.

Words spoken by someone who has seen a lot of hard times, everywhere.

I have used it to make a better life for myself and a better world in the profession I am in... working with hundreds of children each day.

24 hours, it is on my mind.

Looking at certain areas of the current human condition it would be very easy to develope a "Doom's Day" attitude.
Things that I know will not change in my lifetime.

The only thing I can hope for is that successive generations continue to improve intellectually and spiritually.
That being done, everything else should take care of itself.

My wife and I are trying to lay a foundation for our kids to grow into honest, fair, smart, compassionate and moral people along with being cautious, questioning, discriminating (in taste) and independent.

We all should just try and do the best we can do in all areas of our lives on a daily basis.

well, life changed a lot when i was given the gift of my babies..... just like it seems to happen for most folks in the position of being a new parent.

i have noticed most that i am waaaaay more concerned about the good/evil factor in the world. i seem to believe much more in the whole karma thing. i am always concerned about children around me.... and seem to hold that 'it takes a village' idea to heart, there is little i wouldnt do to help another baby or child be successful in life. honesty has become a major part of my life, not that it wasnt before, but moreso after the babies arrived. i used to party all the time... i dont do that anymore. simple things like tossing a piece of paper out the window didnt seem like a big deal before.... but, now i think about if every person did that everyday, my babies would live in a trash can by the time they hit their teens. i cant help but to notice all the evil in the world, just like everyone else... but, instead of thinking about the effects it will have on me - most of the time i worry about the kids. this list could go on and on..... but you get the point

as far as how i live MY life.... i can honestly say that every decision i make is wrapped around the success and or failure of my babies, and how my choices will effect them. some folks say i need my OWN life and not to live through my children.... but, i say, i HAVE my own life, and it IS my children heart .
One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

Its so interesting how each stage that my daughter goes through I see the world a little different. She will soon turn 15 in January and I think more in terms of her immediate future (the rest of high school, college, etc) whereas when I look at my neice and nephew, I go back to wanting to change the world so they will have a great place to live in.

My daughter is my legacy and a gift to the world. I think I have be a good steward in raising her, I have to be a positive influence to her friends and I have to understand my place in the "village".

Its very important that I raise a community minded child and by doing that, I think that helps to contribute to the future of this world.

i live for my children's future right now. right now i've been going through alot of stuff and i've had to make a huge decision that i've flip flopped on but now its final. i had to do this because of them and i know that its all for the best. i just feel that its my responsibility to make sure that my boys become the men that they should be. i worry about the things they may go through as young black men in this world. i worry if they might go through the problems i'm going through. i want them to be strong, stand up for what they think is right and be true to themselves. right now they look for me for comfort and direction and since they are not adults and i chose to bring them in this crazy world i have to put them first before everything-they are getting big but they are still my babies. i'm living my life.

I had to step away from this question briefly...

They are questions I have had... probably all my life, subconsciously and now... extremely consciously.

I truly believe most humans know our children are at stake, children rely on responsible adults to raise them, protect them... provide for them and instill positive morals. Although, this is not always the case... and in my world, I am emotionally overwhelmed by what I see in "our", our... meaning: societies upbring of chilren= our future.

I see several of you have strengthen your future's focus after having children... beautiful to see your words and care of their well-being. rose

Several of you focus on the overall picture... living the best 'we' see it to be.

peace

What I feel was important in what brownsugar said... (all parents) brought our future children into this world, or many of you may have taken the responsibility to raise them as our own, whether planned or not, your children exist. We must be responsible, we make the ultimate 1st choice concerning our children. Children depend on us... and for many, many... years, adults definitely shape much of who we/they are going to be (not alway entirely, although always to some... more or less degree).

Those who have no children (like myself and many here), yet realize the importance of instilling positive experiences within children... whether professionally, family related... or friends who have children we know..., we must realize every moment is critical. Many people do not need to have children of their own to influence them in healthy ways, nor to realize the value children truly have... now or later in life. I always say to myself... "I know I can't save the world..." (at one time... I thought I could) ~sigh~ although if I can give a child a positive outlook, a realization that better days exist... they will always have goodness to compare to the not so good days. I firmly believe that many children today... have very little and perhaps no moments of comparison, little do they know another side... hence remaining in the only world they know to exist. (I know this to be true... for many) After many years of conditioning... no wonder many children grow up as dysfunctional adults... battling with each day, many have long given up hope for a better life or have lived believing the "good" does not exist... and this is, our future.

Life is challenging enough, even if raised in a supportive and loving home... too many continuous/repeated situations life entails in a day, no matter where we are, or who we are.

Beautifully said... Rhondab... "our place in the village"... rose I understand and relate to that 100%.

...

And yes ... recyling is just as important... pertaining to all our future.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts/beliefs... I will always be wondering where the minds of our world exist (more so on the direct applications of our thoughts) ... that will not end until my journey ends this time around. First and foremost... I still have so much to do and give... that is my life, everyday... whatever comes my way.
