i hate being dicked around So I'm about to graduate in a couple of months, and my student-only part-time job will be no more! I'm quite terrified, and trying to pick up a full-time position doing clerical stuff because I have lots of experience in it, so I can pay the bills while figuring out grad school stuff for next year.
Well, last week, I interviewed for a good position that had substantial pay, a comfortable, casual office, and a pretty location that is very close to my house. Also, great hours. Well, the dickhead who interviewed me was initially very nice and expressed a lot of interest in me as a candidate. He asked me to come back on Monday afternoon for a second interview. He didn't specify the time, and said we could figure that out later in the week. I went out of town after the interview, but I called him while out of town, on Thursday AND Friday (the interview was Wednesday), to see what time I should come in on Monday. I didn't hear back from him and figured he just wasn't interested in me anymore. Well, today, I get an email from the dickface, stating that they had to go ahead with the second interviews on FRIDAY, because I guess filling the position was so fucking urgent...and the position had been filled. I wouldn't be so pissed, except I would have stayed in town to go to the second interview... Honestly, what the fuck? A second interview for MONDAY was promised to me. I think they could have waited, particularly over a freaking weekend! Nice miscommunication, asshole! I HATE JOB HUNTING! I know this shit is part of the game, but it still sucks.

So unfair. No wonder I've encountered so many idiots in great positions. My favorite was, when, a few years ago, this girl was at my dinner table at my cousin's wedding....she had also been an English major. I was expressing my fears to her about finding a job after graduation, and she was like, "Oh, don't worry! I'm a [insert fancy name here] for [insert fancy corporation here] in Manhattan, and I'm making 60K a year..." So I asked her how she found the job. Her response? "Oh, my dad owns the company..." FUCK YOU!

That's why I love being in business for myself...although that entails a completely different set of hoops you have to jump thru at times...
Good luck, hun... | |

My wife experienced something almost identical when she was initially trying to find a paralegal job. Some people can be real assholes.
Hang in there. You were probably meant to have an even better job with someone else.

Look at it this way: you wouldn't have wanted to work with such unprofessional people anyway. When a business hires new staff it's a two-way deal, like any other business transaction. Both parties should be equally respected and satisfied. If you go in with that attitude they can usually sense that you're a force to be reckoned with and not someone who's just desperate for a job.
I understand that these people probably would have messed things up anyway and that good attitudes don't put food on your table, but at least it's a way of retaining your self-respect and improving your chances the next time.

Unfortunately we aren't hiring at the present time (and I don't think you'd be willing to move to Toronto, anyway). But you'll find something.
