I have no idea. I am having the same problem as you. iTunes sux to me and I'm not buying any more music from them. You would think the levels would all be the same on all the tracks.

If they were to make the levels the same on all tracks *they* would either artifically have to raise the levels on some tracks which brings up distorition issues and clipping or lower the levels on other tracks which condenses the sounds together. I don't think they think it's their place to artistically change the song.

Of course after you buy it you are free to do with it what you please.

Done on purpose? Have you noticed that every cd you own is recorded at a different level?

I use a program called soundforge when making mix cd to level things out but I think there are a million prgrams that can do the same thing but be careful because most of them will cause you to lose sounds in the high and low ranges.

Please forgive my ignorance...but how is it that it comes out even leveled through the speakers???? Can't they use the same process in recording?

What speakers? Put in your Sign O' the Times cd and turn it to volume 3 and then put in Musicology and keep it at volume 3 and you are going to hear completely different levels. It just depends at what level it was originally recorded at. Most older stuff is usually quieter.

The same loud and soft mix cd problem happens whether using Itunes or burning from cd. To level out the volume the songs will need to be normalized which done properly takes a little time but I know a lot of burning programs have a feature to do it automatically but more often then not there is going to be some serious clipping going on but most people aren't bothered by this.

I know that ickTunes can't make all the levels the same. It just would be really cool if the quality of the songs were better.

So basically what you all are saying is that when i make my Cd's they should all be the same year and record company in order for some consistancy... lol

Oh well....I guess i'll just stop tripping and tell the people at the party to get over it???

Happy Halloween guys.....thanx again.....
