Doesn't the fact that the few gay people posting in this thread are all saying that her coming out makes a difference to them just prove the importance of her coming out? It's that simple to me.

Okay-- she is attracted to women exclusively, like millions of other women before and after her. Personally, I think its for publicity. I havent heard a peep out this bitch in years; all of a sudden she's on the scene because she's gay. Who gives stupidedit. [Edited 10/26/05 14:50pm] No disrespect but it is important to come out and shout it for the rooftops, especially people that are successful. Why you ask, because in this day and age 1/3 of all suicides are gay kids. M [Edited 10/27/05 0:26am] MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I just think that she is known for being a great athlete and that's all i'm interested in. . Her coming out has to do with her entire life not just how she plays a game. It's only getting this kind of attention because she's famous. Now when I came out, you don't think it was like having a press convference in my house? My whole family was a buzz and the only reason America didn't know my "business" is because I'm not famous. So really, she's just being honest about hef life and the fact that she's a sports figure is secondary. this is definitely a learning thing with me. I think because I've always been around VERY out gays and lesbians. ok..i'm sorry again for being insensitive....again.

But i still think its a publicity stunt, based on the timing of it all. It's true that people do some dumb things as publicity stunts, but I don't think coming out is one of them. I don't know what she would have to gain by disclosing her sexual orientation. Dennis Rodman wearing a wedding dress, make up and heels...dumb. A woman risking public scorn, career backlash and humiliation by coming out as a lesbian...not so much. She speaks some truth in that short article, particularly about the double standard about sexuality that exists in sports: "There are as many straight women in the league as there are gay. What really irritates me is when people talk about football, baseball and the NBA, you don't hear all of this talk about the gay guys playing. But when you talk about the WNBA, then it becomes an issue. That much is very true. People assume that men in professional sports are straight, and they expect that women are lesbians. In a lot of people's minds, a heterosexual woman in sports is an exception to the rule.

just curious. My daughter plays basketball and watches the WNBA just to see women play at a professional level. I enjoy women's basketball sometimes more than men's. Lots less ego. I think a lot of people wanna see dunking, and it just ain't gonna happen in the WNBA! Yeah....we wanna see the Shaq Attack! Lisa Leslie dunks....but that's only every blue moon. As far as the actual game, the WNBA seem to go by the fundamentals of basketball more than the NBA and that's good and all, but I like a little excitement....you know the flashy moves, passes, dunks, trash talking along with the fundamentals. I think it's sad though that those women don't make nearly as much as the men and they play their asses just as hard if not harder. Professional male athletes are really overpaid, imo. typo [Edited 10/27/05 11:37am] looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)
