Sepia II Some of you might remember my first sepia thread a long time ago. The pictures I posted then all featured inanimate things, so I figured it might be interesting with living subjects this time.
I took the first picture this summer, the second one last summer and the third one just a few weeks ago. Like I said the last time, not all pictures feel like they should be sepia tinted, but for some reason I feel that these ones do. When do you think a picture should be black&white or sepia? Do they require a certain atmosphere or what? Feel free to post some examples if you like.

I think the second picture would look more striking as just black and white, you've softened it with a tint but their expressions are hard/sorrowful, Great picture, I like the first one too, the tint gives it a warmth.

.... [Edited 10/31/05 13:58pm] Thanks! It's interesting what you say about the second picture, because I tried it in black and white and it felt a bit like overkill, if you know what I mean? Like it was trying too hard to convey sorrow somehow. That's why I decided to tint it ever so slightly. I see what you mean though. I tinted the first one quite a lot. I don't know why, maybe it was such a "Western" style picture to begin with that I just decided to run with it. .

Okay, since everybody apperently was bored/puzzled by the original topic, let's have a guessing contest.
Where do you think these pictures were taken?

Thank you. The guy who's in the first pic hasn't seen it yet, but I felt like it was okay to post it since his face isn't showing. The second after I took it he spun around and looked suspiciously at me, but I pretended like I hadn't taken the picture at all. I wanted to surprise him with it later since I knew he'd be happy with the fact that it makes him look quite muscular.

Where do you think these pictures were taken? First one California ? Second one, Somewhere in Asia. Thailand ? Third one, New Zealand ? Wrong continent on all counts. The third is as wrong as it possibly could be. The second one is a bit misleading though, I admit that. Thanks for trying! And your guesses weren't too shabby, by the way. I can see how you were reasoning. [Edited 10/31/05 15:36pm]

I give up for the second one

In that type of mood again, eh? It's a sexy pic though ,the way he is standing ..even if you never meant to take it that way.Why are the women so sad/worried looking in the second pic?

I give up for the second one Oooh, getting very close on the first one. But you of all people on this site should have gotten it right, hint, hint. I was exaggerating a bit when I said the third one was as wrong as it could be. But at least now, you're in the right part of the world... You're very close, even. .

They're actresses, playing their roles (very well, I might add). They're supposed to be sisters in a short film and I was asked by the director to take a few pics, so I rounded them up and asked them to gaze in different directions to indicate the split between them. Later we become good friends. The girl in the background has apparently been in a bunch of so-called "tits and ass" movies, which she loudly declared one drunken night.

Oh come on mr jizzinparis, you should be able to guess the country for the first one. Scotland is close but no cigar. Maybe you could *cough cough* try a little jump to the east? .

France for the 1st one ? In the Pyrénées ? A little jump to the east for the last one ? Hum, let's see, you're from Sweeden, Denmark maybe ?

The answer is Norway, in the town of Geilo. You know how Norway looks like a giant sperm? Well, Geilo is right in the middle of the head. The second one is Canada. Vancouver to be precise.

But on the other hand, this part of France is really close to some parts of Spain, Portugal, even close to my first choice, California. For the second one, well, you play with my nerves How can i figure this one was taken in Vancouver ? And for Norway, damn, i was there back in the days. But i stayed in Oslo. Funny game by the way

Funny game by the way Thanks for participating. I know the second one was very tricky, but since I told you it was tricky (and therefore probably not Asia) you had a remote chance to guess Vancouver/Canada if you happened to know that one third of that city's population is of Chinese descent... Tricky as hell though, I know. [Edited 10/31/05 16:16pm]

I'm really not sure. It just felt right as soon as I tried it. The grass was so distractingly green, I suppose. I wanted the eye to focus on the sheep. Or perhaps the whole setting made me think of old pictures from a time when sheep were more important to the farms? [Edited 10/31/05 16:22pm]

[Edited 10/31/05 16:22pm] they do look kind of pensive and the picture looks older than it is, the white of their coats stands out.

I just used a very basic editing software that came with the camera. I don't make any changes to my digital pictures that wouldn't be possible to do with regular development technology. That would be cheating.

She's just gorgeous... http://img131.imageshack....pia6al.jpg (NSFW)
