Holiday sugar cookies

I want to bake some Halloween cookies this year. I have a sugar cookie recipe but I dont have a good frosting recipe. The previous recipes I used for frosting either dried too hard or it was too liquidy. I found a few recipes online but I dont want to risk it.

Does anyone have a good frosting recipe they would like to share?

Martha Stewart's got a good, simple recipe and decorating tips. It uses egg whites, so I'd recommend the pasteurized variety.

mmmmm.....frosting..... drool I don't have any frosting recipes, I just wanted to express my love for it giggle My aunt used to work at Bi-Lo's bakery and I'd always ask her to sneak cake frosting out for me. that's really the best part of the cake.....especially the type of frosting that's made specifically for birthday cakes. drool Sometimes I'll buy a birthday cake just for the hell of it.

pumpkin cookies.....I never had that before. I haven't really had too many desserts with pumpkin in it. Pumpkin pie, of course, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin cheesecake. You gotta try pumpkin cheesecake.....the places around here only sell it during the fall. I should try baking one myself, then I'll be able to have it anytime of the year.....but chances are it won't be as good as the bakeries.

i could give you lots of recipes for homemade icing... but, in all honesty, when i need one thats going to stay soft and is easy to do, i use betty crockers "butter cream" frosting.

trust me on this.. it'll work out just fine, just give it a couple of squirts of food coloring, and youre good to go hug

Sugar Cookies (Grandad Daniels' recipe)

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
2 1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Cream butter, shortening, and sugar. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Add dry ingredients. Shape into 1" balls. Roll in sugar. Place on greased sheets. Flatten with a glass. Bake at 350 for 10-12 min. Yeilds 5 dozen. Yummy Flavor!!

Sugar Cookie Frosting

2 cup powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons butter (real butter)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
milk

beat til smooth

(quite simple)

They are so delicious... I am afraid to make them... I would eat them all and share with no one. A good friend and Dietitian at the hospital would make them for me...

I vow to make them... and each time I open my kitchen drawer the recipe just waits...

I don't want cookie thighs. lol

thats the frosting we put on our christmas cookies every year julie .... and youre right, its the bomb recipe, but, in my experience, it tends to set up and become not so soft anymore shrug

as far as flavor goes, i like this one better by far.... reminds me of grandma mushy

but, if she wants icing that stays soft, do you think it will ???

One Thanksgiving my aunt tried nuts and raisins in her pumpkin pie and it was god-awful. giggle She's always making some nasty concoction that's supposed to be dessert.....it's really become a joke/guessing game to see what nasty shit she's gonna make this time lol
