First of all I must say that I am glad that I moved from St Pete 3 yrs again but I think I may have moved to a more dangerous place for driving. (Now I live where there are old ppl and New Yorkers & Jersey driving around).
The scary part about the drivers license laws here, they re-issue them by mail. So as long as an old person can make out a check and send it in, they get their license renewed!

He must have been doing some lick to severe his leg and embed the pedestrian in the windscreen...
There's obvious tragedy to this But the old guys insurance will be out the window now... and it's a good job it wasn't raining or the windscreen wipers wouldn't work and he wouldn't have seen where he was going I also think it's fair to say it was a freak accident and no need to ban old folks from the road...there are many more dangerous younger drivers out there....

Umm, where do you live?? Here in Florida, it is quite scary to drive everyday and dodge the old ppl who just dart out into traffic. I think they should at least check these drivers out before renewing their licenses through the mail. You obviously do not inderstand the disease Dementia or Alzheimers. I think anyone diagnosed with either one of these diseases should NOT be allowed to drive. [Edited 10/22/05 6:07am]

Ok, well if not an age cut-off, than at LEAST make people start taking yearly driving tests after a certain age to see if they're still able. I mean seriously, is it that difficult?! my grandfather still drove when he was 89 or so...
now, before you say he shouldn't have been driving... he was very aware that his reactions were slower and was a careful driver as a result he lived in a small town where it is not uncommon for people to drive 30km/hr down the main street. he drove to the grocery store and back, and always took a younger neighbor with him to help him when backing up. he also drove out to the farm with grandma - and always made sure to leave in plenty of time so that darkness or sunset would impair his abilities if old people should be made to be tested every few years then we all should! it would help more than just a few of us be better drivers yes, this story is tragic - but remember we are all going to be old someday and won't appreciate someone else arbitrarily telling us we can no longer operate a vehicle because we are 65, 70, 75, 80...
