I was casually going out with this guy about 3 years maybe? take it or leave it kind of. Took us a year to say I love you - it seemed mainly a physical thing to be honest. Then one day he was going to buy a house with his sister and his dad. We started looking at houses, and his sister pulls out because her relatively new boyfriend said don't do it because they might buy a house together. So, he asks ME to buy the house with him. All of a sudden I just saw him in a new light. He was very prepared to be in this for the long haul. We bought this house, the next year we married in the backyard and it all seemed to just happen so naturally. And the best thing is, that he has turned out to be my soulmate and best friend as well as bed-buddy. We don't disagree on important things like money or parenting. It is truly amazing. Before this I had no dreams of white weddings (which I didn't have anyway) or desire to marry.

Why would you very much like to be married? You can do the same things when you are unmarried as you can when you are married. You are not missing anything.

Because she was and is the best thing that ever came into my life. Because we're each other's best friend. Because we love each other that much to make a life-long commitment.

You can be and do all of that without getting married.

I was always looking from High school on, for that person that I can relate to, be best friends with and share the rest of my life with. Make a family with. Never to be lonely or come home to an empty house. Together, making each one a better, stronger person. Taking care of each other. Someone to be able to share everything with. Someone to love for all time.
Marriage is more than just shacking up. It signifies a strong committment before God and everyone else that you will not leave that person come good or bad but are dedicated to the relationship 100%, no matter what. (Barring of course common sense things like abuse, cheating, etc.) The ceremony and verbal promises just make it more solid, but certainly an unmarried couple could have that. I would think it would be just less common. "I am the way, the truth and the life; No man cometh unto the father, but by me." - Jesus of Nazareth (John 14:6)

This Dec we will be married 15 years.
It's a special relationship...we are blessed truly! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
