Ex-Moderator | MinneVasion 2005 (10/21-10/23) Official Itinerary and check-in Alright, here's the official MinneVasion 2005 Itinerary Friday night - The best way to see First Ave is at a live show. endorphin74 put together the details on this fabulous evening. Endo presents: The Friday Nite Plan! We will be enjoying some LIVE MUSIC at FIRST AVE!!!! Friday, October 21 Main Room 6:00 PM Doors 7:00 PM Show/ All Ages 89.3 THE CURRENT PRESENTS THE DECEMBERISTS with special guests CASS MCCOMBS $16.00 advance $17.00 door Thanks to Anxiety, I've fallen in complete LOVE with this band this summer. This is a bit pricey if you aren't familiar with the band, so people may decide to wait till the Saturday events, but anyone is welcome! Remember this is an ALL AGE show and First Ave is non-smoking now! curious? here's a bio from the First Ave site: by Linda Seida Colin Meloy leads the Decemberists, a five-piece outfit whose pop sound has listeners comparing the band with the likes of Neutral Milk Hotel and Belle & Sebastian. Meloy, who hails from Missoula, MT, is the main songwriter for the group. Rounding out the lineup are Ezra Holbrook on drums, Nate Query on upright bass, Jenny Conlee on accordion, and Chris Funk on theremin and pedal steel guitar. Frontman Meloy previously devoted some time to an alternative country group before breaking off to pursue his craft as a singer/songwriter in the city of Portland, a period that eventually led to the Decemberists' formation. He also holds a degree in creative writing. In addition to her duties on the accordion, Conlee also plays piano. Funk is the band's newest member. Before Hush Records released the Decemberists' first album in 2002, the group put out an EP of five tracks. Their full-length debut, Castaways and Cutouts was re-released that same year on the Kill Rock Stars label, and the band began to accumulate a serious fan base. 2003 saw the release of Her Majesty, another fine collection of theatrical indie pop with british folk sensibilities that further cemented their growing reputation as a band to watch. The following year they released the five-part epic EP The Tain, based on the 8th century Irish poem of the same name, followed by their third full-length Picaresque in 2005. THE DECEMBERISTS web site: http://www.decemberists.com/ Saturday - 2pm - Meet & Greet Uptown! We'll be meeting in a cute restaurant in Calhoun Square called the Independent. Calhoun Square is on the corner of Lake and Hennepin in the heart of Uptown Minneapolis. Yummy food and cocktails. Plenty of room to, well, meet and greet each other. While trying to find a photo, I came across this review of their restrooms and it made me giggle from http://www.restroomrating...oom228.htm The co-ed bathrooms give this place a weird vibe, as you often get hit on while washing your hands (or not washing them like some choose to do). However, they have redeemed themselves by getting doors that actually shut. Gone are the days when you have to get all your friends to either A) slam the door shut with all their body weight or B) stand there and yell, "stop looking!" They have not however, fixed the problem of explaining how the bathroom works. Many are still confused by the concept and use the wrong side of the bathroom. Perhaps a sign is in order. Oh and a hint to everyone - there is a family bathroom next to the co-ed bathrooms that no one ever uses. But try to keep that info to yourself. Once we've had our fill of food and Prince talk, if the weather's nice, we can walk down to the lakes, do some shopping if you've got some cash and there will definitely be a vinyl dig goin on at Cheapo Records (just for you, PaisleyPark4!). 9:30pm - Club/Pub crawl! We're meeting at the Elbow Room! Located at 212 East Hennipen Ave in nordeast Mpls, the Elbow Room is hooked on to the Bobino Starlight Lounge and you will enter through the Lounge's doors. Both are pretty tiny (hence the name) but they serve some of the yummiest martinis in Mpls. We'll chill there for a bit and listen to the trancy/housy/electro-y sounds they're known for. A great place to start the night and if the spirit moves you, feel free to dance, just be carefeul not to go knocking anybody over. It really is that small. From there we'll be herding ya'll to a few more fun places. We'll see where the night takes us. We've got a few things up our sleeves. Sure to be a good time. Now, that's all we posted up till now but we just got word in that DJ Miss Paris is willing to throw some extra Prince tracks into her normal mix on Sunday night. So for those of you interested/still here: Sunday night 9pm - Fuji-Ya! It's located in the Mpls' LynLake neighborhood (where endorphin74 and I lived through the better part of our 20's) at 600 West Lake Street. It's just a short way down Lake St from Calhoun Square. Fuji-Ya is a hip little japanese restaurant/sushi place that has a great bar. Miss Paris said it's busy from 9-10 due to Happy Hour, but she'll try to play some Prince for us. And yay drink specials! Round about 10:30 we'll be heading downtown for some dancing. Anyone interested in joining us is welcome. And just for fun, check out Fuji-Ya's advertising. I love it. http://www.fujiyasushi.com Since this is smaller than last year, we've kept the plans a bit more open. If you plan on attending any and/or all 'events', PLEASE LET US KNOW. Either post here, or send me a note. We just want to make sure if we move on form one place to another we aren't forgetting anybody. As for who I've heard confirmation from to attend at least one thing, the list is as follows (just be sure ot let us know when and where you'll be attending): CONFIRMED INVADERS: Muse2NOPharaoh Anxiety madartista tackam LOCALS CONFIRMED endorphin74 LABound CarrieMpls violett RipHer2Shreds TMPletz lovemachine RaspberryWoman EskomoKisses (+1 ) handclapsfingasnapz paisleypark4 HobbesLeCute |

Ex-Moderator | I should mention, I most certainly did not plan this alone. Endo and I have been hard at work for a while putting this all together. He gets half the credit if it's great, half the blame if you think we suck. |

Actually, I planned ALL the fun things. Anything un-fun was Carrie's idea

Fun! I'm a go for Saturday afternoon/early evening fer shur! I've really had to map out my money and weekend plans in anticipation of my mom coming to town for Thanksgiving, so I'm not sure on anything after that. And now my boyfriend's going to be out of town for a death in the family, so that's adding a little more financial strain. I'm going to do as much as I can though, and I am looking forward to Saturday and part of Sunday.

People, I just got back from Minneapolis and St. Paul for a quick weekend work-related trip. I wanted to contact some of you locals there, but I was really hurried and a I dunno why, but I got really shy. (I'm turning into Greta Garbo in my old age.)
Anyway, as a visitor, I can say you guys have a GREAT city! It's definitely got the ruggedness of the midwest with the cosmopolitan air of the east coast. You guys should be proud to live there. And there are some real hotties -- male and female -- walking around up there! Naturally cute, but decidedly not big-city slick. Who knew!?! Calhoun Square is an awesome place. I didn't eat at the Independent, but rather had breakfast at the gritty diner across the street (The Uptown Bar and Cafe). And I had dinner once at Chiang Mai Tai around the other side of Calhoun Square. I got a chance to snap some photos of First Avenue, and I got a chance to drive to Chanhassan to see Paisley Park, where I stole a rock from the front parking lot! (My favorite part, though, was taking a walk across the bridge overlooking St. Anthony Falls with my little girl.) Anyway, I'm sorry I missed you all (I'll not be such a chicken when next I'm up), and for those of you going up, you're gonna have a great time! Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

And yes, we can do Cheapo on Saturday. Sadly, Let It Be is closed down for good. But we can fit Electric Fetus in easily while you're here. |
