i rented those versions from netflix a while back...they're okay. if you don't expect much from them, you might find them kind of charming and fun. i'm all geeked out for the big screen disney version this christmas, though! thumbs up!

When Harry Potter came out and everybody thought it was so damn inventive I always felt like it was a bit of a rip-off of the Narnia Chronicles. And they, in turn, ripped off all kinds of other British fairy tales that I'd read. Admittedly successfully so, but JK Rowling was just tapping into that whole tradition, in my opinion. shrug

I liked the BBC version when it first aired in 1988 (or whatever year it was). I watched it again last year and wasn't so taken by it. I am, however, very excited about this new version. It's been a while since I've read the books, so I'm making sure I read them again before their December release. This is a must-see for me in an already crowded movie season.

I liked the animated version of Lord of the Rings better than the new films, it was much shorter. First video I ever saw.

I like the animated films, and I do like the Jackson films as well. Personally, I don't think they're worthy of the praise heaped on them, but that's just me.
