do certain movies make you really angry? it's hard for me to watch movies like rosewood, mississippi burning or even roots because of the nature of the topics. but i also feel like they need to be watched. some of my friends of jewish descent have a hard time watching schindler's list for the same reason. are there any movies that are just really painful for you to watch? (before anybody says it, grafitti bridge is not included ) you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

Any movie that depicts hair stylists in a one dimensional or derogatory manner pisses me off. Hair dressers are smart, intelligent, fully dimensional people who deserve some respect.

Definitely.
Flicks like 8 Mile and currently Hustle and Flow that promote the idea that the way out of poverty is not through education and hard work but to become a Rap star. The movie "Black & White" angered me tremendously. It was so ridiculous and only reinforced the sterotypes that it claimed to expose. I was so pissed at that damn movie that I wrote a 6 page essay on it. I got an "A" That's the only good thing to come out of that movie being made. I AM BEATLOAF

So far I am definately feeling this article. I'll finish reading the actual review a little later on. The writer has some very on point observations/opinions. He is so right about the way black films are critiqued. the same can be said for the way almost anything considered "black' is judged or viewed by people of all races, including "Blacks." I'm getting too worked here. Thanks so much! I AM BEATLOAF

Black and White pissed me off. It had Method Man and Raekwon and a slew of rappers in it. The whole rich white freaky girls sucking black guys off in the woods pissed me off. But that is nothing compared to the other ones you all are talking about. It's trivial. But that night I was NOT in the mood for some stereotype shit.

I'm getting too worked here. Thanks so much! You're quite welcome. I'll print the ending of the article, for the benefit of others, which hits the nail right on the head... As it happens, the next day, I went to a discussion group — a salon of black people who met to talk for a couple of hours about the appointed topic: black film. It was a lively and absorbing session, but also discouraging. Too many people in the room felt that the ghetto-centric black movie was not only okay, it was — here we go again — real. Then one participant, a guy I’ll call X, told a tale about a fellow black screenwriter who was casting about for a pimp-whore-ghetto story to write and quickly cash in on. In the course of his conversation with X, the screenwriter revealed a compelling story of his own — that of a college graduate who had overcome hardships of all kinds to get an education and eventually break into the business. “Why don’t you write about that?” X asked. The writer looked at him like he was mad. “That,” he said, “is not a story.” Not true: It’s a story. It’s just not a hustle. One day we’ll figure out the difference. ...My sentiments exactly. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I was really offended at "Big Fish." It heroized a self-obsessed, megalomaniacal father who was never there for his son. It hit a nerve.
I also get pissed at blaxploitation movies that continue to reinforce the same stereotypes about black people. And I get even more pissed off that black people continue to buy into these ideas about how they're supposed to act.
