I found this reader question from an old Roger Ebert column: Roger Ebert / April 30, 1995 Q. If you go back and watch any Jeff Goldblum movie, you'll invariably notice at least one scene in which Jeff is both eating and talking at the same time, or drinking and talking at the same time. It drives me nuts. Sure, we all do it on occasion. But Jeff seems to think that it's great acting. Maybe way back when, some Hollywood director said, "This kid's got talent! Look at him eat and talk at the same time. Wow, he looks so natural." Jeff should realize there are other ways to appear natural on film. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good actor, I'm just tired of his shtick. Michael J. Fox is another great eater/talker/actor, but then again, so's my dad--no big deal there. (Steve Glasberg, Agoura Hills, Ca.) A. I say if you can't do it as well as John Belushi did it in "National Lampoon's Animal House," you shouldn't even try it.

And yea, I like Jeff . [Edited 10/16/05 22:24pm] Ahhhh...I was just about to bring that up. Jeff in Deep Cover was damn brilliant. He and Larry had great chemistry and I was truly wishing that they would do a buddy cop film after that. Jeff's quirkiness is what makes his acting so damn great. "But what of black women? . . . I most sincerely doubt if any other race of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a fire." -- W.E.B. Du Bois --
