WORK PERMIT AND SPONSORSHIP I had my very first ever job appraisal today... I've never had one before so was kinda nervous It went really well actually my boss (and her boss the BIG boss) is really happy with me apparently and actually asked me if I'd ever consider sponsorship with the company and a contract... what this would mean is 4 years more in England and it would actually open the door for me to apply for residency it would be, if it eventuates, a HUGE and scary step though it's a long time to be away from Australia  | |

in uk employment law, if ure offered a contract, either permanent or fixed term, u still have rights 2 give notice and leave. so if they give u a fixed term 4 year contract and u wanna go back home after a few months or even years, u can give ure notice and leave. if u r contracted for 4 years, u pretty much will gain continous employment rights, in that they wont b able 2 easily fire u, but regardless of that, its unlikely a company would contract some1 4 such a lenght of time and not keep them on permanently. perhaps the contract time is 2 keep in line with a visa xtension time. u can only get visa's in the uk under certain circumstances, sponsorship is 1 of the main 1s, but i dont think ure family is here, so the chance of a company sponsoring u is a particularly good offer. unless u r planning on returning in the short term u should accept the offer as it wont b on the table 4 long. u always have the right at any time 2 give notice and terminate the contract on ure own terms, so u r not stuck in the uk if u dont want 2 remain here, but u r guaranteed a job whilst u do | |

Yup! Me too! If you get the opportunity, I'd take it. I believe, also, that once you have a work permit like that, if you should find a new job with a different employer, the new employer can transfer the permit over fairly easily. At least from what I've looked in to... |
