Worst. Comic. Artist. EVER!!!

Her folks is a tribute to the man I consider to be the single worst artist in comics today. Now, I'm not really able to draw them there superheroes, but at least I KNOW I can't! Mr. Rob Liefeld is, in my opinion, the single bigest hack in comics EVER!

First, a bit of history. Mr. Liefeld started out at DC, fresh out of high school with no formal training (really!!!). He soon defected to Marvel, where he was given the job of revampiong the New Mutants. Eventually, this became X-Force, starring the hero Cable. Rob was an almost instant success, since his style was unlike anything else on the market.

In the early 1990s, he and several other Marvel artists left the company to form Image comics. His first Image title, Youngblood, was an instant success, but trouble was brewing. This was where many fans began to realise that Rob was just recycling the same old character designs over and over, and that he was also stealing from other creators. It also became apparent that the guy had no sense of proportion whatsoever, and that he had no business actually writing comics.

Soon, Rob was fired from Image, and started his own comic company. He also returned to Marvel to reboot Captain America and The Avengers. This was the final straw for many comic fans, and Rob's name became an overnight synonym for "sucky".

Quicly, Rob found himself fired from Marvel, so he decided to take his unused Captain America ideas and create a comic called "Agent America", who battled a villian called "The Cyber-Skull"

When Marvel threatened to sue, Rob went out and bought the rights to the Jack Kirby character The Fighting American. He changed his Agent America character to The Fighting American, and slightly tweaked the costume. Marvel still sued his ass anyway. They eventually settled out of court.

These days, Rob doing work for both Marvel and DC. He is widely hated by comics fans worldwide, yet still gets plenty of work. He must give great head.

So, let's hear it for Rob Liefeld, the sultan of suckage!

Here's a brilliant idea from Liefeld:

I don't even remotely agree with this statement. I can think of plenty of mainstream artists that are quite good: Ethan Van Schiver, Rags Morales, George Perez, Alex Ross, The Kubert brothers, Mark Bagley, Ed Ramos, Joe Mad, Ed McGuiness, Jim Lee, Chris Bachallo just to name a few.

Liefeld isn't even remotely in a class with these guys.

i stay away from mainstream comics because all i see is similarity between the style of art. it all basically looks the same to me; you can barely tell the difference between the titles anymore. there's absolutely no sense of uniqueness in the mainstream comic book nowadays.

but i do agree that liefeld is an absolute tool...evillol

i hate how he has to put buckles and seams and pockets and gizmos and shit all over classic superhero costumes. then again, i like real old skool, simple looking stuff like john romita jr. and (glory days 'alpha flight' era) john byrne. i loved paul smith's work back in the mid 80s, too - very smooth and clean.

I also love the old school Byrne (not to crazy about his more recent work. I think he's kinda lost it), and Paul Smith is great.

I'm not a big fan of Romita Jr. but I know I'm in the minority on that one. His dad, on the other hand, is the friggin' king!

...or naughty children, which is what I think the comic was about (I can't say for sure, as I avoid his work like blood spurting from a junkies arm). Yes, Rob is a sick little monkey, and I'm pretty certain he only gets lumps of coal for Christmas since he published that little number.

oh, i love his dad's work too. i like how romita jr. can pull off "non-action" scenes in comic books and make them really interesting...i could read a whole issue of spider-man where it's nothing but peter and m.j. talking about nothing, as long as romita jr. is drawing it. he did an issue of x-men kinda like that back in the '80s, where it was just storm and kitty talking about girl stuff, and it may be one of my favorite issues of a comic book ever - of course, part of it was the writing, and marvel letting them take the risk of having an entire issue devoted to character development.

okay--the angle perspective on that is fucked up. is he standing with his arms stuck up halfway in the air, or is he flying through the air? the position of his feet make it look hard to tell.

either way, dude's back looks messed up. lol

I will say that I think Romita Jr has a great sense of flow, and his layouts in action shots are quite nice. It just bugs me the way he draws faces. All of his characters look pretty similar, and I cannot stand the way he draws character's mouths.

nod Unfotunately, that is true of all of his stuff. He just has no concept of perspective whatsoever.
