Favorite horror movie.

What is everyone's fave horror movie, and why? Do you even like horror films? I think horror movies and books are good, because they deal with death, a subject few people think about, because it scares them too much. You have to deal with death to appreciate life more. Horror is a way to cleanse the darkness from the human soul.

My fave horror flick is EvilDead2, even though it is not that scary, it is so well made that it is almost an art film. Skilled direction from Sam Raimi, who went on the desecrate his memory, by doing the Spiderman films. This is old fashioned hardcore horror at its best.

I don't really like horror movies. I like psychological thrillers
but I'm not sure if they would qualify. Anything with a cool plot
and some horrendously scary action goes. Just don't like all them
bloodfest movies.

I saw a very cool movie a few months ago, it was swedish, about a
four people lumbering in the woods. And fcuz shit went wrong in a
horrible way.

But the whole film was done so brilliantly and the action was so
intense without going ott it was just exhillerating.

I just wish I'd remembered what it was called.

Still, by far my fav (if that is the right word here) scary movie
is "Spoorloos". It was remade with english/american actors as the
movie "The Vanishing". But the remake ain't got shit on the dutch
version. Plus, I saw this when I was 12 and it had me paralised
with fear for months and months. I had nightmares about it that
were just horrible.

Having said that, I think that a lot of today's movies are very
very scary but are then completely wasted by their ending and the
over-using of special effects.

"Signs" is a perfect example of the final scenes killing the film
completely. Up to the point where you see the aliens it's scary
ass stuff. Then you see that "camcorder" footage and the "foot"
and I was about to piss myself.

Once the aliens came in full view I was like "shall we go home?".

"What lies beneath" suffered greatly from the final effects too.
The film was cool and had good suspense but once we got to see
the dead girl pull the guy under water in horrible computer fx,
the whole film was shot to bits for me.

There are a million more examples of this. But I'm babbling on
and on and most likely i'm talking about the wrong genre anyway.

CreepyCarrie

Given the title of the thread, I had to log into this account smile My alltime favorite is probably this one:

Too close to call...

I guess I left off why I like them. Halloween was the first movie I remember scaring the crap outta me. I was when I watched its broadcast premiere on NBC in October 1981. That damn mask frightened me like nothing before had. Doesn't scare me like it used to, but no horror movie does really anymore. Carrie was the first time I remember being moved and scared by the same movie. I was just as devastated and scared by the treatment she received from her classmates as I was by her revenge at the film's conclusion.

I think The Exorcist speaks for itself. It's in a class all its own and deserves all the recognition it's received over the years. House of Wax and House of Usher - I love gothic horror and, I think those are the two best examples of the sub-genre. Both are unrivaled pieces of film art!

Anxiety

i don't know if there's a terror movie that really kicks my butt. i kinda liked the first hellraiser movies, i guess. i loved cronenberg's 'crash' - is that a horror movie? or how about 'maid in manhattan'? that scared the crap out of me.

You know they're remaking that, right? They're about to start filming, and Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles are set to star.

Probably. Nobody of note is involved behind the camera.

nod Another excellent one. Helmed by one of the best, most versatile directors ever - the late, great Robert Wise. pray

I've had the DVD of this for two years but still haven't watched it. I can't watch it with the kids around, and I'm too scared to watch it late at night after I get home from work when everyone is asleep. boxed

The original with Max Schrek as the Count!!

I've never seen the Herzog remake, but I want to.

i dont know if this one counts..but uh..i thought blue velvet was pretty uh scary..i mean its a nice looking town..with all these innocence look people..and the true reality of it..just makes your spine tingle....its like...when you see someone angry at you..i wouldn't be as afraid of the person with the typical anger face...what i would be afraid of is the fact that he is mad..and he's smiling..i dont know if this makes sense..it did up there..i guess i lost connection.

This movie transcends genres.

You laugh, you cry, you fear, but most of all, you walk away from feeling as if you are forever changed.

Kind of like a good Stan Fistenburg movie : http://www.amazon.com/exe...ance&s=dvd
