Okay, actually his name is Terry Kiser and he has been a staple on film and television for 30 years. But to many, he will always be Bernie, the crooked guy who tries to set up Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman, gets killed, and spends the rest of the film in one hillarious predicament after another.

"Weekend at Bernie's" and its creatively titled sequel "Weekend at Bernie's II" were not exactly "Citizen Kane". But even if the movies were written by alcoholic chimps, you have to admire the skills of one Mr. Kiser, who very effectively plays a corpse over most of the running time in Part I and all of the running time in the sequel. Don't think this is a challenge? You try it. You try acting dead, keeping the same blissful smirk on your face for hours while people poke, prod, and drag your ass all over the place. Terry Kiser is incredible at the ill-fated Bernie and has never fully received the credit he deserves.

Terry I salute you...you are a true hero!

You know what was cool about the second movie. Not satisfied with having Mr. Kiser lay around and have stuff happen to him (and yes, for those of you who didn't see it, that includes a sex scene) they created a voodoo subplot in the second film where, when a certain type of music was played, he would do a little dance. Pretty damn funny.

I heard a rumor that that guy who played Bernie was really Bernie Koppel.

One of the neater things about the first movie: Bernie is never embalmed and even though several days lapse in the film, there is no noticeable decomposition. I'm not sure what miracle of science allows this to happen but, because Kiser is so good, they pull it off.

You know another amazing thing about the movies. Andrew McCarthy goes through both movies, about 3 hours of running time, without blinking once. Pretty impressive!
