the needle thread (sympathy edit)

Has anyone ever had steroids injected in their knee? I mean medicinal, not the other kind. I tore my meniscus cartilage, and will be getting a needle in the knee to help with the healing.....

Seriously, I just saw a report about this on Frontline.

Apparently the worst part isn't the fact that the needle has to be white hot, it's that in order to properly distribute the steroid they need to hack jagged edges into the sides of the needle, which makes a kind of "ripping" motion as it is jabbed into the knee.

On an unrelated note, can I use your account if you errr... are...uh...gone?

I've never had one in my knee, but I've had them in my neck for arthritis and in both my wrists for carpal tunnel problems. The neck one didn't hurt too much but the wrist ones hurt like hell because the needle goes right into your nerve sheath...sort of an electrical feeling. After it's sore for a day or two and then finally you feel better. It's worth going through the pain because the relief usually lasts for a while.
Hope it works for you! hug

Pain is something to carry, like a radio...You should stand up for your right to feel your pain- Jim Morrison
