My poor dog

My poor dog is miserable due to our weather conditions. It has been hot, humid, windy and uncomfortable in Southern Cali the past week. The humidity has brought the fleas out by the tons! I put his monthly dose of advantage on him on Sat. It didnt stop the itch. He has sratched himself raw on his legs and belly sad. I had to wait till last night to bathe him in AVEENO. The fleas were inbedded in his skin. I had to pick them off him. It took me an hour to clean him up. After his bath he felt alot better. I sprayed him with doggie cortizone before bed. He seems happier this morning and a lot less itchy.

Can anyone recommed another form of itch relief for dogs?....I really hate to bathe in in oatmeal...and cortizone is not the best products for dogs...

Ive always used Frontline flea treatment 4 my pets and never had a problem.

I know some that have had a problem this is what they do:

After you do the dog you also have 2 do the house and the garden to get rid off them.

Use a good flea comb after you bathed him and dip it in flea treatment, If your dog has long hair, have the groomer shave the hair shorter prior to treatment for fleas; this enables insecticides to reach the skin (where the fleas live) and also makes it easier useing the flea comb. I know some who also give a tablet once a month used alongside Frontline. I hope this help. Poor wee think I hope the nasty itches go away soon.

Reincarnate

Frontline is very good, especially the one in a vial that you apply every three months.

If your dog has a flea allergy it may be worth visiting a vet to get some specialist, mild shampoo. We had to bathe one of our dogs a lot when we first got him as he had itchy skin and no fur on his back. It was a lot of hassle but it was worth it in the end to see him happy and not scratching.

1) Take him to the vet, and
2) hose him down with water

Frontline works wonders, you might wanna consider changing treatment now and then cos the damn fleas get resistent. I hate fleas, thankfully it's not a common occurrence on dogs in Sweden. Here flea treatment chemicals are mostly used for protection against ticks in the summer.

I called the vet. If he doesnt get better within the next 2 days. I need to take him in. They will look at his skin, and give him a flea dip/and or cortizone tablets if necessary. confused

Maybe you should consider bringing him inside.

The only time he is outside is when hes at my dads house during the day. Other than that, hes inside. I dont have fleas inside my house, or at least i dont i do. Fleas never bite me or the kids...

My dad said he is doing alot better today. He stayed inside. My dad brushed him out a few times today, and said he didnt see any fleas. I think hes itching due to irritation now. My dad gave him a teaspoon of childrens benadryl....

and yes, it is safe if given in small doese

What a lovely pet owner you are. hug

We use Frontline on my dog and it works well. (he's a Sheltie and has LOTS of hair.) He likes to have his bum scratched but I don't think that's flea-related. We used Frontline and Advantage on my first dog, who had HORRIBLE flea problems. They are a godsend.
