Well, i got to welcome Harvey Pekar to the library that i work in... and i brushed past a ton of famous local authors i never read...

But to my credit, i only started working there in July...

My understanding is, after the success he had in Jaws, he found himself type-cast, only ever offered similar roles to the one he found fame in. After being rejected in his bid to win the lead role in Raging Bull, depression sunk in and he stopped acting altogether. However, as you know, sharks can't stop, they have to keep going, so he died.
