Salinger, John Updike, and Bob Dylan." Bob Dylan?!?!?! I mean, like, where is the sun?

But Pynchon still gets my vote. Why did it make you nauseous? I think giving it to Pynchon would be a triumph for humor. They always pick such gloomy people! Probably because at the time the book was assigned, I was studying abroad in Wales and drinking every night, so the next morning when I read it I was hungover. Also, because I was the only American in my class, I was called on wayyyyy too much to explain themes in the book, like, the feminist movement, and the constitution and all that jive. I was like, Welshman, please. I am in Wales so I can forget about America! Most of the time I came up with pathetic answers. Then, he didn't expect much of me, anyway...he actually told me before the semester began that because I was American, I wouldn't be expected to do as much! Normally, I'd be offended, but I took it as an open invitation to have very little responsibility! Man, do I miss it.

Once, in a linguistics class, I had to "perform" how I pronounced vitamin, tomato, and some other words. I also had to explain the ebonics proposal in the Oakland School District, as well as what ebonics were. I mean, like, where is the sun?

Long pause I may have come here before. Not so long ago. Silence It was on the bridge. Don't you remember? I thanked the cold for making you grip my hand tighter. Pause" And so on...

So now does this mean we all have to agree to read a Harold Pinter play??
