Fauxie

I try to open doors for people wherever I can here in Thailand to give the people a good impression of foreigners (and just out of standard politeness too, of course).

Thing is, what's the deal if more than one person walks through and then suddenly a whole line is walking on in? I stand and hold the door open for the first person to just walk straight through, but surely it's the responsibility of the second person through the door to take over and keep the door open for the next person as they enter, who then does the same and so on.

Here they just all walk through without touching the door and I end up facing the choice of either standing there holding it open while about 15 people walk through, or letting go and twatting somebody in the face with it. hmmm

Any suggestions?

A polite warning before you let it go - such as "watch out!"

The way I'd handle this would be to smile politely stand aside wait for them to insist i walk ahead of them, then do so. Or i smile politely and keep walking infront of them acknowledging dat they let me through first and I plan 2 carry dat idea right through to me being first in linez before em!!

If i'm feeling ultimately good I just smile and insist they go before me. smile
