Calling all computer geeks! I'm trying to back-up some files to a CD-RW via Nero. When I go to burn, I'm getting the message "Disc type in recorder: (Empty)". Anybody know whats up?

Random.... Do you have it in the right one assuming you have a double burner maybe?
Did you try another blank?

I haven't used Nero in ages, so I'm not going to be much help, but - have you selected the correct type of media to burn. I've noticed that if you, for instance, select a load of mp3's to burn to a dvd but have selected dvd-video rather than dvd-data, Nero goes slightly nuts.
Either that or you've got a dodgy cdr in your drive, or else (as the error message would suggest), you forgot to put one in ? Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

i've had the same problem lately...or maybe vaguely similar, anyway...
i've been trying to use nero to burn some video files to CD-R, and it's giving me all kinds of hassle. i know it's just me being a moron because the files aren't that big, really.

Have you tried a CDR? it could be a problem with your re-writable disc.

When choosing your options at the start, make sure you select "making a data CD" and make sure it's looking at the correct drive.
If you have In-CD capability, you should be able to copy and paste files from your hard drive to your CD-RW drive within Windows Explorer or My Computer. That's about the easiest way to do it.

That's what I think. Make sure you're not using re-writable discs and just use CD-R or CD+R. Also when that box comes up it should say what disc it accepts..have a close look next time.

Have you turned off the Auto-Run function in Windows? If the CD doesn't "spin up" when loaded into the tray, the CD Drive may not know that you've actually inserted a disc.

Actually, have you installed or upgraded anything recently? You may have corrupted your ASPI compatibility...
http://www.savefile.com/files/1874237 Unzip this file to your desk-top and double-click it. If any of the four DLL files are listed as not installed or N/A, come back to me. It works with any version of Windows.

If you ran the test and can't see the message: "ASPI is properly installed", let me know!!!

Didn't ANYBODY run the test? I could have the answer to all your problems.

Well, I just ran the test and it says ASPI is not properly installed. One or more components has been replaced with older versions. I wonder if this could be why I can't get my printer to work, despite repeated installations Help! what do I do to restore ASPI ? Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.
