I lost complete respect for him when he said Jim Lee was a 'pretty boy' artist. It's amazing he's never tried to hack George Perez (my all-time favorite comic book artist) but then again, he couldn't. He'd have to use a scanner to copy George's work. Not sayin' that Rob in beyond that though. Oh, he has tried!! I was going to post this on Friday, but I ran out of replies: It's not quite as obvious as some of his "homages", but then again, he really can't get anywhere near Perez. When I do draw stuff (which I don't have the time I would love to spend on it) George Perez, Jim Lee & John Byrne (old school X-Men stuff) are the artist whose styles I try to emulate because they were so detailed. Not that anything I draw could touch what they do, but they are at the top of my list for inspiration. Ethan Van Scier (sp?) is another really good artist that I enjoy lookin' at as well. All of those artists you mentioned are fantastic. I'm a huge fan of Ethan Van Sciver. U happen 2 KNOW McFarlane ?! No, I just met him once at a comic con. He was a stuck-up, arrogant prick. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, and assume that he was just having a bad day, but since then I've seen interviews with him, and heard stories from other fans and creators. They all confirm that the guy is a stuck-up, bloated asswipe. He does, however, make some really cool action figures. Back to Mr. Liefeld's wonderful "homages":

Bolland IS awesome! His Joker is the definitive look for that character, IMHO. Let's not forget, he did the cover to the Prince: Alter Ego comic! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9) | |

I met him once back when he'd just started the 'new' X-Men with Chris Claremont, and although he was resisting doing a formal signing, he signed my X-Men #1 gatefold cover (which Chris Claremont had also signed), and he drew me a Wolverine sketch on white card. Very nice guy. Alan Davis too - he drew me a sketch. I always thought he was fantastic. Yes, I used to be a big comic geek as a kid. I can't remember the hero he stole it from, but the Image logo is a rip-off. That pic you posted of DD isn't Liefeld though, its Quesada. Normally, I really like Quesada's stuff, but for some reason he started doing the screwed up proportions like Liefeld in the Daredevil: Father mini Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
