[wonder wo--erm, "glory" was here] it's as if he's making knock-offs for the sake of knock-offs! like the real thing is more expensive than this..."no son, we can't afford wonder woman. how about glory, she's the same thing! but cheaper and shittily drawn!" this slays me. | |

This thread was like a mini lesson.
I don't read comics, but I've enjoyed a few graphic novels, like Watchmen & V for Vendetta. I would have never noticed that this guy sucked, as he obviously has some skill as an illustrator & is basically competant. But the subtleties show what you are talking about. The muscles that don't exist on human bodies, weird deformities, and the rip offs (which I wouldn't know anything about). It proves that technical skill is only half of being an artist. For a total beginner, what's one of the most highly regarded comic series--maybe something you can get in a book form? Check this song out at:

Oh, I PLAN on getting to that! In fact, there was a website a while back, which I can't seem to find, that shows all the different pics Rob had ripped off. For a total beginner, what's one of the most highly regarded comic series--maybe something you can get in a book form? Well, it all depends on your tastes. If you like them there sooper heroes, then there is a whole lot of cool stuff. Dave Gibbons & Alan Moore's Watchmen is fantastic, dark stuff that shows an alternate reality to our own where superpowered heroes altered the course of history. There is also Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, which tells the tale of the Dark Knight's first adventure, and Miller's Dark Knight Returns, which is a possible future for Batman. Oh, and I would remiss if I didn't mention Mark Waid and Alex Ross's grim possible future for the DC heroes, Kingdom Come I also highly recommend any of the classic Claremont/Byrne X-Men, or the Lee/Romita Sr. Amazing Spider-Man issues. They may seem a tad bit dated now, but they are the basis of so much of the modern stuff. I also really dig Ultimate Spider-Man (which is collected in about a dozen or so volumes of trade paperbacks), a modern retelling of Spidey's origin by Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley. As far as non capes and tights books, I love Y: The Last Man, by Brian K Vaughn, We3 by Grant Morrison, Creature Tech by Doug TenNapel and Kabuki by David Mack Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
