I am exposition-phobic.

I've come to the realization that I have an irrational fear of having to sit through long-winded explanations. Seriously, I'd really just rather figure stuff out on my own than having to sit through a whole history lesson. I even hate it in movies - when people start babbling about "my brother hasn't always been this way...", I hit the skip button. Or if I'm trapped in a theatre, I figure that's a great time to talk to the person next to me or make a call on my cell phone.

Exposition is evil and must be destroyed.

Thank you. That is all.

interestingly enough, i tend to absolutely listen to an entire exposition with patience and KEEP listening, after a while people tell you what they were trying to get at, i tend not to believe that telling someone over time, unless im in a rush, that they have to hurry the story up. there usually is something important that the person has meant to say and UNTIL its said, they will keep bringing to you until they do, if you save yourself the trouble and actually be nice to them you may be rewarded with good things... if anything as they wont talk about it anymore if it is annoying, in which case, your patience is a virtue lol

unless, of course, they're the kind of person who REALLY likes to chatter and they have a habit of forgetting that they've told people certain stories.

kinda like every other person i encounter on any given day. lol

I hate when people HAVE to explain something that may take quite a few words but dances around it and speaks too slowly.

Exactly! There are some people where I work who, whenever I see them walking toward me, I immediately get a mental image of the opening crawl from a Star Wars movie. boxed

just today i had embarked on a friendly conversation with a woman about how through this website i was able to make connections with people in other cities and countries, she asked why... and i said i felt it was important to see what other people are thinking and also that i can get feedback on my own creations as well. of course ive told her this before, and she feels its nothing more than paranoia that i would pay attention to the customer for input on how my product is percieved. i explained that in my city there are too many things that hinder our upward movement and jealousy stops that movement. of course that is the case in all cities... but some worse than others, when confronted with these issues, one finds that there is a neccessity to actually answer a question when asked and patiently allow what you said sink in... now from her perception, my point about paying attention to the customers wants is not what her perception of an artist is about, but though i can paint piles of shit as a subject every day, not many people are gonna buy these images... which over time may lead me to painting flowers. ergo... being patient with others interactions, ultimately leads to understanding and personal growth by both people.

The more you have to say, the less you actually say. I personally think that a long explanation from someone means that they are lying.

This is why people get mad at you for coming up with simple solutions they could never have thought of.

Some people take forever to get to the point.

My partner has an issue that he talks sort of slow and stammers when trying to tell a story or what have you. Drives me NUTS. I have to refrain from giving him the "get to the point" sort of waving with my hands. And he really hates it when I pretend to have a tow line and start reeling it in when he is trying to tell me something.
