trailer parks, hurricanes and tornadoes

why don't they have some sort of minimum guideline for housing in parts of the country where extreme weather occurs? how many trailers go flying through the air every time there's a tornado or hurricane? a lot fewer solid brick homes seem to be destroyed when these natural disasters happen

It does seem strange that so many homes in the US are made of wood rather than brick, particularly those in hurricane zones. I've never really understood why, given that America is such a rich country.

America is such a "rich" country. I think these multiple hurricanes have exposed to the rest of the world that we ain't all so rich, and this is the reality a lot of people live in...

I remember one year I was home visiting my parents in Indian from college...and there was a tornado...where they live it is wide open farmland...it leveled a trailor park in about 5 minutes or less. Pretty fucking wicked, luckily nobody got hurt.

nod And people need to keep that in mind. Why legislate what kind of house somebody with limited income should be able to buy? Not everybody can afford better homes. For those who want to have their own piece of land/property, sometimes mobile homes are their only option.

nod Again an example of the minority being represented as the majority. Media should curl up and vanish!

i know it all sounds so big government...but geez...who doesn't expect a trailer or a house on stilts to get blown away in tornado alley? if you're gonna spend billions in clean up efforts every year, why not up the building codes as well?
