the Guiness factory is alright..

but BETTER is the JAMESON whiskey factory tour!
at the end of the tour they give FREE SHOTS of that MOST DELICIOUS whiskey..
& if you're LUCKY..
you can be
(like I was)
the "shot taster" who gets like
TEN SHOTS
of various Irish, Scottish & American whiskeys!
VERY GOOD.
wait - maybe it was TWELVE shots of whiskey!
damn.. well I DID have a VERY NICE buzz after..
well AT LEAST 10 shots of FREE ALCOHOL..
biggrin

before this tour, I was NOT a whiskey drinker..
but now..
I NEVER turn down a shot of Jameson's Irish.
it's DEFINITELY my whiskey of choice!

that whole downtown area of Dublin - where all the pubs are - is cool, very animated at night.. I forget what it's called, it has a specific name..

then as an American, I really appreciated the fact that there was a
TGI FRIDAY'S
in Dublin..
& it was just like the TGI Fridays I know (& love) here in the USA..

I don't know if this is your 1st time in Dublin or not,
but I think just being OUT THERE will be great.

of all the countries & places I've been in my life
I can honestly & genuinely say
that the Dubliners I met were THE NICEST.

I mean unbelievably nice.

I'm sure you'll have a blast.

let us know how it went..!
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Shopping in Grafton Street, if only for Brown Thomas. thumbs up!

I also agree wholeheartedly with others about the Guinness and Jameson factory tours.

You could also go to The Clarence Hotel, especially if you're a U2 fan. cool

The area Mit's talking about is the Temple Bar area. Very touristy now but still a haunt to hang at generally some good pubs and bands. Forget the Clarence Hotel, overpriced/over rated.

you're welcome, Nomad!

& thanks to Red for clarifying - it IS called Temple Bar. very lively & animated, even in April & May when I was there & the weather was still quite gray.

I meant to highlight/emphasize this in my initial post in this thread :

The Irish I met in Dublin
they really, really were
THE NICEST,
THE MOST GENUINELY NICE
people I have ever met in my life
anywhere in the world.

I remember my 1st time there in April '01, I had dinner in a pub with some colleagues. after dinner, they all headed back to the hotel but I wanted to stay & soak up some of the "pub atmosphere"..
so I went into the pub (on the 1st floor, below the restaurant where we ate..
I went in & I knew NO ONE..
yet within 5 minutes, people in the pub were talking with me, buying me Guinness & shots of whiskey..
unbelievable!
we sang, & talked & laughed..
it was GREAT!
that same night I also met a group of nurses from Manchester..
ALSO very nice.. & very friendly!

the pub environment in Dublin is very special, it's GREAT.
I've never seen anything like that - before or since.
the more I talk about it, the more I want to go back !

hm.. maybe I can find some of the pub photos I took from that trip..
if I can, I'll post them here!

yeah, Nomad - I am sure you're going to LOVE Dublin!
have a shot of Jameson's for me!
biggrin
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Hey, what's the name of that famous tiny little pub that's always packed in the evening and you can't get to the bar so you shout out your order and then your pint gets passed back by about 20 people before it gets to you?

Fantastic!
