I think a good writer is one that can get under the skin of his/her characters and make you believe in them, whether they are despicable or good, that they are convincing.

Writing should be done for the writer. You can't worry about who you please with your writing...it's about purging, catharsis.

Unless of course you're looking to get paid....then your shit's gotta be good.

I write because i want to, for myself and for others. money would be nice, but it isn't a reason. the only person i want to please and that should matter is mine, that is true, but as i write for others as well, being that they say they love what they read, i wish i could know that was true, but i can't, as i said im confused.

There is absolutely no answer to this. Yes, there are some things that fall under 'technics' or 'style', but basically the talent comes down to this: for every writer, musician, artist: to be universal and very original at the same time.

And above all: don't ask on a forum what makes a good writer, just try to be one, in the first place for yourself. We can't do what we think other want us to do. That destroys creativity.

But I do understand your worries about this issue. wink

Your feelings are normal, what's a poet without some angst? Everyone who creates has those same highs and lows.I mean, you're putting out pieces of yourself for people to look at.That's exciting and scary at the same time.Try to enjoy the experience of it all. Don't stop writing books (you probably can't stop anyway).I like your work, too. hug
