Bonza night before Bonfire night TOP STORY...
EXPECT fireworks on the eve of Bonfire Night, as Lancashire Music Collective present five fuzzy angels, an acoustic wizard, an emo band with a monk on drums and a hip hop legend. Read on for details of this spectacular night.
SO, picture this. On November 5, 1605, a solitary figure was arrested in the cellars of Parliament House. Although he first gave his name as John Johnson, a startling series of events gradually unfolded under torture. Guy Fawkes, as he was really called, was one of thirteen who had conspired to blow up the parliament, the King, and his Lords, thereby throwing the country into turmoil, out of which these traitors hoped to raise a new monarch, sympathetic to their cause, and return England to its Catholic past. Just imagine if they'd succeeded? Anyhoo, that's not relevant - what is, is NOVEMBER 4 2005. Four of the best unsigned local acts are dropping in on little old Ormskirk Comrades Club to light the blue touch paper themselves - and see in Bonfire Night in style. So, get this, firstly two newies. Up to the mic steps Natt - an improbably boss acoustic act from Southport who is so good I had some random madman raving down the blower to me about the guitar and vocal trickery. Aceness. Second - there's Hope.That.Hurts. Yeah, truly awful name, I agree. But that's where the badassness ends. All guitars, full force mash-up of emotive hardcore. So check these new people out. So, to the regulars. Kofi. No relation to Annan. This one man showstopper is a walking LMC legend. Having scooped multiple gongs at last year's LMC Awards night - and sold his name for big bucks (20 notes you know!) we're expecting him to carry the mantle for urban beats for 2005. Have it! Lastly and most definitely beastly, its those loveble rogues - Wolff Glory and the Hairy Angels. Did you know that before every gig the Hairys engage in a session of wild Broga (yoga among brothers), They claim it helps bring togetherness and spiritual enlightenment which adds to the rock n roll development of the soul. With that in mind, and the fact that sexy Ken is making an appearance - this promises to be the best LMC show since... October! So get your backsides in gear - and roll up for the biggest bang before bonfire night, ever! In short: November 4, Ormskirk Comrades Club, £3.50, 7.30pm. "Art calls for complete mastery of techniques, developed by reflection within the soul."
