There's an orchestral work composed for this painting called Three Screaming Popes. I heard it played last year by the San Francisco Symphony. At the end, the orchestra musically SCREAMS. Very strange and cool. Bacon's painting is in homage to this painting by Velazquez.

The Love Embrace of the Universe Two Fridas Henry Ford Hospital Flower of Life Broken Column Roots Self Portrait Sin Esparanza Family Tree You could analyze and discuss this woman's art for a hundred years and still never touch the surface of everything there is to be seen and said. . [Edited 9/22/05 16:58pm] Absolutely love Frida as well as Diego, but with my graffiti background I've always been insired by Keith "be glad that you are free, many a man is not"

Here is one of mine; Thank you for posting that! Also, who painted yours? I like it! Ah, sorry. TOTALLY forgot. This is by Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi. He liked painting empty rooms or rooms with his wife in it, but she would often be with her back to the viewer. Real intrigueing. I love his light. It reminds me of one of my other faves; Johannes Vermeer.

My absolute favorite is The Creation by Michelangelo ( hand detail only; I don't like the depiction of the 'god' and original human as masculine).
I love considering the moment Power and Life Force was transmitted to humans by touch of the Divine. . It sends goosebumps through me every time I look at the replica in my living room. Tying for my absolute favorite is Georgia O'Keefe's Grey Line. I loved it instantly the first time I saw it. I know O'Keefe protested until her death that her reading of various flowers was not feministic. But fuck that. That's a vagina if I ever saw one. And I love it. I have it in my living room and it smacks every man in the face the moment he enters. Take that, you phallic worshiper. I discovered this painting and immediately made a connection. Then researched and found that others had for years. In this "Grey Line" I see woman and her essence as a vibrant, alive complex mysterious, sensual, and beautiful thing. You know, I need to see more gynocentric art. Men have their Eiffel Towers, swords, even the mortar and pestle.

Absolutely one of my favorite paintings, although I can't remember the name of the artist.
I love it so much that I'm thinking of trying to commission it for use on future album art of mine.
