So I work for a big company. A REALLY big company. The 3rd largest of it’s kind in the entire world.

And anyways, my boss doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing, and his boss is absolutely clueless as well.

Every C-Bridge initiative, every 6 sigma rule, every best practice technique for minimizing product defects, is not only not adhered to, but absolutely non existent in the new processes we are working out.

If anyone is aware of these quality paradigms their essential purpose for existing is to minimize product defects to extremely narrow windows. I can pretty much guarantee we have a 30% defect rate. You would think we were Joe’s barnyard tools or something.

But the reason for all of this mess, is NOT because their process are not there to be followed. It’s not because the employees are not themselves skilled, nor is it because they (my management) are not smart people—it’s because they lack management skills.

I’ve been called into a meeting 3 times in the last week in which I’ve seen my supervisor turn to a spineless jellyfish in front of a business mid level business exec who was dead wrong about something. I finally lost my mind today and started posturing my offices position in light of the fact that my supervisor can’t—some people have no clue that being an asshole in a corporation pays off!

What I want to know is, are we all bobbing in an ocean of fundamentally idiotic mid level management in America? Everyone I speak to seems to feel that corporate America has slipped into a (not that it wasn’t already) void of purpose. With so many companies going public, or growing into super mega-companies, it’s a wonder management at every level has no clue where the boundaries for responsibility are. I almost long to be in the Military again.

if you place the importance of looking busy and irreplaceable over the needless toil of actually completing tasks and goals which keep you busy and irreplaceable, then you'll find great success in the corporate world.

you have to love when people are promoted to management not because of their ability to manage
but for their ability to "look busy and irreplaceable" for a few years.
